1. Blarney Castle & The Blarney Stone (County Cork)
No childhood in Ireland is complete without a visit to Blarney Castle. Climbing to the top of the ancient stone structure and kissing the legendary Blarney Stone is said to grant the gift of gab. You can get a picture taken of your kiss to the Blarney Stone and collect it on your way down from the castle. My sons love climbing to the top of the castle and never get bored of doing so, and we've been to Blarney Castle countless times now. The surrounding gardens feel like something straight out of a storybook, with hidden waterfalls, rock formations, witch trees, a poison garden and fairy glades waiting to be explored. Bring a picnic or grab something to eat from the castle grounds two lovely cafés.

2. The Giant’s Causeway (County Antrim)
A natural wonder and UNESCO World Heritage site, the Giant’s Causeway is a fascinating place where science meets legend. Children will love hopping from hexagonal stone to stone, imagining they’re walking in the footsteps of the giant Fionn MacCumhaill (pronounced McCool) who was said to have walked to Scotland from these stones. The coastal scenery is beautiful, making it a perfect spot for an adventurous family day out. We've been here twice as a family and my boys loved sitting on the closest to the sea stones and having the waves crash up at them, it made for great fun! 3. The Fairy Forest of Rossmore Park (County Monaghan)
Deep within Rossmore Park, children can enter a world of magic as they search for fairy houses hidden among the trees. This enchanting fairy trail is designed to ignite young imaginations, with tiny doors, whimsical sculptures and storytelling boards revealing local folklore and myths.

4. Bunratty Castle & Folk Park (County Clare)
Step back in time at Bunratty Castle & Folk Park, where children can experience life as it was in centuries past. The medieval castle itself is captivating, but the real magic lies in the recreated 19th-century village, complete with traditional thatched cottages, a schoolhouse and friendly farm animals. The fairy village within the park is a favourite for little explorers and there's also a great playground on the grounds too.

5. Glendalough (County Wicklow)
For families who love the outdoors, Glendalough is a must-visit. The stunning valley, home to ancient monastic ruins and two picturesque lakes, is perfect for storytelling and adventure. Kids will enjoy the woodland trails, spotting the friendly deer who roam around this beautiful place and imagining monks from long ago wandering the serene surroundings. We visited with our sons in the summertime and my eldest son couldn't resist having a dip in the lake to cool off!
6. The Leprechaun and Fairy Cavern (Carlingford, County Louth)
The town of Carlingford is already steeped in medieval charm, but the Leprechaun and Fairy Cavern adds an extra touch of magic. Guided by a real-life leprechaun whisperer, children will hear folklore about Ireland’s tiny, mischievous creatures and even get a chance to leave messages for the fairies. How magical is that?

7. Fota Wildlife Park (County Cork)
For young animal lovers, Fota Wildlife Park is a dream come true. This is not a zoo, but a wildlife park with animal conservation at it's core, and the park allows many animals to roam freely, offering children a more immersive experience. Watching wallabies hop across the pathways, spotting cheetahs sprinting or feeding friendly lemurs makes for an unforgettable day. For an extra magical day, book a Fota VIP experience where your child can get up close and personal with the animals at Fota and even get to feed them! For some months this year, the wildlife park also has a Ferris wheel, giving visitors great views over the park and beautiful surrounding landscape. A ride on the Ferris wheel is €5 per person.

8. The Cliffs of Moher (County Clare)
One of Ireland’s most iconic sights, the Cliffs of Moher, is a dramatic and awe-inspiring location that will make any child feel like they’re standing at the edge of the world. The visitor centre offers interactive exhibits perfect for kids, and on a clear day, the panoramic views stretch out as far as the Aran Islands. Please stick to the paths when visiting here with young children and follow all advice to enjoy this beautiful spot in Ireland as safely as you can.

9. Westport House & Pirate Adventure Park (County Mayo)
For a mix of history and fun, Westport House is an ideal destination. The historic house is fascinating for parents and one of the most beautifully decorated places I've ever seen, while children will love the attached Pirate Adventure Park, featuring slides, go-karts, a mini train and a swan pedal boat ride. The grounds are also home to a fairy trail, adding an extra touch of magic.

10. The Dark Hedges (County Antrim)
This otherworldly avenue of twisted beech trees looks like it was pulled straight from a fantasy novel. Famously featured in Game of Thrones, The Dark Hedges is a mystical place where kids can let their imaginations run wild. Whether pretending to be knights or adventurers, this stunning spot offers an unforgettable experience.
Ireland is a place brimming with folklore, legends and places that bring childhood dreams to life. Whether searching for fairies, exploring ancient ruins or enjoying the beauty and fun of nature’s wonders, these ten magical places in Ireland will create cherished childhood memories for years to come.
