As we get closer and closer to summer in the Northern hemisphere, many of us are having to dig through the depths of our cupboards to find the right summer outfits. Sometimes, you just can’t find the right items, and it can be a bit of a bother working out how to fill up your assortment of summer outfits.
To make that process a little easier, we decided to take a look at some timeless summer staple styles. From anything linen to summer sandals, here are a few pointers to get you started on your summer fashion journey.

Linen
When we think of summer staples, the first thing that comes to mind is linen. Pretty much any clothing - summer jackets, light trousers, flowy shirts - made from linen just scream summer, and you really can’t go wrong.
Whether you’re going to be cruising down the Riviera or reading your favourite book in your local park, linen items need to have a place in your summer wardrobe. They can be incredibly affordable, so long as you look in the right places.
Plain white t-shirt
Another timeless summer staple is the plain white t-shirt. It goes well with pretty much everything, and the white fabric does a great job of keeping you cool in the heat of the sun. If it’s really hot, you’ll want to try to look for options made from a thinner cotton.
Shops like Screen Textiles tend to list the weight of the fabric in the product descriptions, so you should be able to get a good idea of the kind of t-shirt before you actually buy it. Get a handful of options to carry you through the season. White t-shirts often don’t stay crispy white for so long, and you might want to keep a few options nice for when you need to look your best.

The sundress
Simple sundresses are a classy and classic summer staple, and can be great for pretty much any occasion. Their flowy fit helps to keep you cool on even the hottest days, and nice floral patterns make it much easier to visually embrace the season. You can get a few options, some thicker, some thinner, so that you have one for every kind of summer day.
Sandals
No summer style guide would be complete without at least a brief mention of sandals. Likely the oldest form of footwear, people have been playing around with sandal styles for quite literally thousands of years, and they’re as timeless now as ever before.
Whether you go with a Birkenstock or something a little more complicated, sandals not only look great but also help your feet breathe during the hotter summer months. If you don’t already have a pair, now's your chance to have a look.
Getting your summer wardrobe in order should be a lot of fun. By following the general styles outlined above, but adding an idiosyncratic touch of your own, you should be able to get your approach just right.
