As a mom of three energetic boys, I know just how important it is to have a list of go-to adventures ready for the school holidays. Whether you're local to lovely Leeside or planning a family visit, there's no shortage of things to do with the kids during the summer holidays in Cork.

1. Make a Splash at The Lagoon Activity Centre and Smuggler's Cove, Rosscarbery
Only a short drive from the city, the Lagoon Activity Centre in Rosscarbery is a summer highlight for older kids and teens. With pedal boats, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboarding, it’s a perfect place for watery adventures on a calm, shallow lagoon. Parents can watch from the shore with a coffee or join in the fun too! Literally a minute up the road is Smuggler's Cove, if you want to enjoy some on-land adventures with the kids too. Their tubing slides were a big hit with my eldest boys.

2. Step Into a Fairytale at The Fairy Woods, Farran Forest Park
If your children love magic and make-believe, then the Fairy Trail in Farran Forest Park is a must-visit. Tucked amongst the tall trees, tiny fairy doors and woodland creatures invite little ones to explore nature with a sense of wonder. There’s also a lovely playground and a picnic area overlooking the lake – ideal for a peaceful summer afternoon. Take a walk around the forest park and spot the gorgeous deer. For older kids, you can book Zipit Forest Adventures and let them walk among the tree tops!

3. Farmyard Fun at Leahy’s Open Farm or The Farm Grenagh
The summer holidays aren't complete without a visit to Leahy’s Open Farm in East Cork. There’s so much to do – from cuddling baby animals to riding go-karts and even navigating a maze! During the summer months, they also run daily activities like pig racing and tractor rides that the kids absolutely adore.
If you have tractor-loving little ones, then a visit to The Farm Grenagh is a must. They have a Tractor Ted that kids can sit in and get their picture taken with their favourite green tractor. They also have an indoor sandpit, ride-on tractors, a combine slide and lots of lovely animals to visit.

4. Take a Trip Back in Time at Cork City Gaol
For something a little different, Cork City Gaol offers a fascinating (and surprisingly kid-friendly) glimpse into Cork’s history. The audio tour is interactive and informative, and the cells are set up with life-like figures – a huge hit with slightly older children who love spooky stories and olden-day tales. I went here on a school tour as a child and still remember how much fun it was seeing the 'ghost' in the cells!

5. Seaside Memories on Cork's Beautiful Beaches
When the weather plays nice, there’s no place better than the beach and Cork has lots of beautiful beaches to offer. In East Cork, Youghal offers soft golden sand, shallow waters, and a lovely boardwalk for scooting or strolling. Just down the coast, Inch Strand is quieter but just as beautiful — a lovely spot for shell collecting and sandcastle building.
In the west, Barleycove is an absolute dream!
Don’t forget the buckets and spades, and maybe a flask of tea for mum and dad.
6. Feed the Curiosity at Lifetime Lab & Fitzgerald’s Park
In the heart of the city, Lifetime Lab at the Old Waterworks is a hidden gem. It’s hands-on, educational, and surprisingly fun — perfect for a rainy day. Pair it with a visit to the playground in Fitzgerald’s Park just next door and finish with an ice cream from the café. Pure Cork perfection.

7. Explore the Wild at Doneraile Wildlife Park
Nestled in North Cork, Doneraile Park is a treasure trove of natural beauty and family-friendly activities. Spanning over 400 acres, the park features beautifully landscaped gardens, serene riverside walks, and herds of deer grazing in open meadows. Kids will love spotting wildlife and exploring the various trails, while parents can enjoy the peaceful surroundings and perhaps a picnic under the ancient trees. The park also offers a playground and a charming tea room to round off your visit. A little tip, if you want the deer to come over to you, offer them some ivy, they love it!

8. Discover Wildlife at Fota Wildlife Park
We couldn’t leave this one out! Fota Wildlife Park is a firm family favourite for a reason. With free-roaming animals, spacious walkways, and lovely picnic areas, it’s a day out that never gets old. During the summer months, they often host themed days and extra activities too.

9. Explore the Harbour by Ferry
Hop on the ferry from Cobh to Spike Island or take a harbour cruise to see the seals. Kids will love the novelty of travelling by boat, and parents will enjoy the scenic views and peaceful pace. Spike Island offers fascinating history and plenty of space for little legs to run free.
While in Cobh, why not check out the Titanic Experience or Cobh Heritage Centre and let the kids learn some history. My middle boy loves visiting these place. There's also a great playground out the Water's Edge in Cobh and don't forget a trip to Scoops ice-cream shop for a delicious treat!

10. Rainy Day Fun at Perks Youghal & The Planet Blackpool
When the weather turns, Perks Entertainment Centre in Youghal is a lifesaver. With over 70,000 sq ft of indoor fun, including bowling, laser tag, a jungle gym, funfair rides, and more, there's something for everyone. No admission fee and free parking make it even better for families.
In Cork City, The Planet Entertainment Centre in Blackpool offers bowling, laser tag, soft play, a 9D cinema, and Big Al’s Diner for a bite to eat. It's perfect for birthday parties or just a fun family day out.
