Dublin is an excellent starting point for any Irish adventure. The city is packed with child-friendly attractions, from the interactive exhibits at EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum to the magical storytelling at The National Leprechaun Museum. Families will love a day out at Dublin Zoo, one of the oldest zoos in the world, set in the picturesque Phoenix Park. Make sure to go deer spotting while you're there too! The Wild Atlantic Way: Coastal Adventures for All Ages

Stretching along the western coast, the Wild Atlantic Way is perfect for families who love nature and adventure. A must-visit is Cliffs of Moher, offering stunning views and a family-friendly visitor centre. Some of the Cliffs of Moher's paths will remain closed in 2025, so make sure to look up the most recent info on what's open before your visit.

If your children love animals, Doolin Cave is home to the longest free-hanging stalactite in the Northern Hemisphere, and the nearby Moher Hill Open Farm allows little ones to interact with adorable farm animals.

Further south, Killarney National Park is ideal for a family picnic, cycling, or a magical jaunting car ride through the park’s lush landscapes. Don’t miss the beautiful Torc Waterfall, which the base of is accessible for wheelchair and buggy users, and a boat trip across the scenic Lakes of Killarney is a must for those who want to take in the majestic Kerry landscape in all it's glory.

The Ancient East: Myths, Castles, and Fairy Tales

Ireland’s Ancient East is steeped in history and legends, making it a perfect region for families with curious minds. Visit Kilkenny Castle, where kids can imagine themselves as knights and princesses while exploring the castle grounds. The playground at Kilkenny Castle is great for the kids too.

Hook Lighthouse, the world’s oldest operational lighthouse, offers guided tours that captivate both young and old.

For a truly magical experience, head to Irish National Heritage Park in Wexford, where children can step back in time and discover what life was like for Ireland’s earliest settlers. The West of Ireland: Enchanting Landscapes and Hidden Gems

The West of Ireland is home to some of the country's most stunning landscapes. Connemara National Park is a fantastic place for family hikes, with trails suitable for all ages and an abundance of wildlife to spot. It's a great place to visit if you're an outdoor-loving family, as it really is one of the most beautiful places in Ireland.

Kylemore Abbey, with its fairytale setting, walled gardens, and interactive history tours, is a must-visit for families. Even my boys enjoyed the tour of the inside of Kylemore Abbey, it's such a beautiful place!

In Galway, stroll through the vibrant streets of the Latin Quarter before heading to Brigit’s Garden, a beautiful Celtic-themed garden where kids can play while learning about Irish folklore.

Northern Ireland: A Land of Giants and Game of Thrones

Northern Ireland is full of family-friendly attractions, starting with the legendary Giant’s Causeway. Kids will love climbing the basalt columns and learning about the giant Fionn MacCumhaill. My boys simply loved sitting on the columns closest to the sea and getting splashed by the sea spray! The nearby Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge provides an exhilarating walk across the Atlantic waters below. Find more inspiration from my own family's adventures around County Antrim and it's sights here.

For fans of fantasy and history, Castle Ward offers an immersive experience for little knights and adventurers. And for those who love the magic of storytelling, The W5 Interactive Discovery Centre in Belfast is packed with hands-on exhibits that make learning fun. You could spend days exploring all the floors of W5, it's an amazing experience for families. Book your tickets in advance though as it can get busy. Make sure to pay a visit to the nearby Titanic Museum and the S.S. Nomadic, the last surviving White Star Line ocean liner which you can board.
