Our Family Staycation at The Inn at Dromoland | Review

*Our stay at The Inn at Dromoland was complimentary, however, as always, all thoughts and opinions expressed are 100% my own.

This past weekend we were invited for a family staycation at The Inn at Dromoland, Co. Clare. I was delighted to get the opportunity to travel back to Clare, as it's where my grandad was from and it's a county which holds a special place in my heart.

It took us two hours to travel from Cork, and after a day of travelling around the area where my grandad was from, Loop Head Pennisula and Kilkee Beach, we were delighted to get back to the hotel for some rest and relaxation.

The Inn at Dromoland is a very family-friendly orientated hotel. There were lots of families staying at the hotel during our stay. The hotel has an amazing indoor soft play area which they've called the Play Inn and the boys went there as soon as we arrived at the hotel. The Play Inn needs to be pre-booked before your stay due to Covid19 regulations the hotel has put in place and only one parent is allowed in with the kids. Breakfast, dinner and the pool also need to be pre-booked before your stay.

We didn't use the pool facilities during our stay, but the pool is allowing just 10 persons in at a time in 1 hour slots at the moment - 45 minutes to swim and 15 minutes to change.

The Inn at Dromoland also has an outdoor play area with slides and a climbing frame and a crazy golf course. We found the outdoor play area great for letting the boys stretch their legs before going in the car.

The hotel room itself was clean and comfortable. The four of us slept in the room quite comfortable as there was a double bed and two single beds.

The room didn't have a bathroom but a shower room - which was fine for us as our boys don't mind having showers, but if your kids prefer a bath I would ring ahead to inquire whether or not your room will have one.

The room had a television with lots of channels, including lots of kids channels which was great as the boys were the only ones who were watching it.

There's no air con in the rooms, but there is a fan. The only thing I couldn't find in the room was a hairdryer - but this may have been removed due to Covid19 regulations, so if you need one make sure to bring your own.

On the first night of our stay we had dinner in the Deerfields Restaurant in the hotel. There was a great kids menu and both boys had pizza, which they finished so it must have been delicious! They also had an ice-cream and a chocolate brownie with ice-cream for dessert.

I had the goats cheese and carmelised onion bruschetta for starter while Jacek had the soup. I had the pasta dish with mushrooms for my main and Jacek had the hake and we both found our meals delicious. We shared a chocolate brownie with ice-cream for dessert because we were so full! I'd recommend the Deerfields Restaurant for a meal if you're staying in the hotel.

There's also a separate bar at the hotel if you want to enjoy some drinks or a pub lunch, etc.

Breakfast at the hotel is hot and cold buffet style but is now served to you by a member of staff behind the counters, due to Covid19 regulations. Only three people are allowed in the queue at a time. The boys loved the pastry options and there's Nutella, etc. to spread on them. Staff at breakfast time were all very quick in seating everyone and getting tea/coffee and toast served straight away.

The hotel has a lovely lobby area and sun room for relaxing in and this place was a buzz with people relaxing - it was lovely to see a hotel back up and running as it should, but with social distancing in place.

There are hand sanitiser stations all around the hotel too.

There's also a family room in the hotel with a microwave, fridges, a vending machine and irons and ironing boards for everyone to use. It means if you need to make/warm baby food and bottles, etc. that you have somewhere to do so and you can also store food there too. The boys loved this room and I thought it was a great family-friendly addition to the hotel.

The nearest beaches are a 35-40 minute drive from the hotel, so make sure to pack for days out. We easily explored both sides of Clare and even took the two hour drive to Connemara from the hotel so it really acted as a great, comfortable base for us during our staycation.

The hotel also has a whole load of fabulous extras when booking a 3 or 5 night family staycation, such as a pizza night or picnic (we chose the picnic for our travels and they provided us with water, sandwiches, apples, crisps and chocolate), a voucher towards food in the restaurant, etc.

The Inn at Dromoland is a great hotel for a family staycation if you're wanting to explore Clare, Galway or Limerick. We had a great time during our stay and are so glad we got to experience it.
