As the chill of winter sets in, there’s one new event to the Cork area that promises to bring warmth, wonder and festive cheer for the entire family this Christmas: Wonderlights at Fota House. Nestled in the enchanting and beautiful grounds of Fota House and Gardens, Wonderlights promises to transform Fota estate into a dazzling and illuminated winter wonderland, perfect for families seeking a magical outing this season.
We had the pleasure of walking through Wonderlights while it was still bright (we have tickets booked for night-time and I'll share photos from it then too) and all the lights looked amazing, so I can only imagine how stunning it will be in the darkness!

Wonderlights has hosted events in Malahide Castle and Marlay Park in Dublin and I'm delighted that they've brought the event to Fota House and Gardens (one of my favourite places in the world), so that all of us in Cork and beyond can enjoy it too.

My favourite lights at Wonderlights were the floating lilypads and the whales on the beautiful pond. It really was so beautiful!

Book Early: Tickets will sell out quickly, especially for weekend slots coming up to Christmas. Secure your preferred date and time online and use the code EARLY20 to get 20% off your booking.
Dress Warmly: While the lights will warm your heart, the winter air will be cold. Layer up and wear sturdy footwear for the outdoor paths.
Arrive On Time: Timed entry slots help manage crowd flow, ensuring everyone enjoys an unhurried experience. It'll also help you to secure a parking space.
Bring Snacks for Little Ones: While refreshments are available on-site in the Alpine Food Village (and I'm happy to report that prices are reasonable!), a small snack can help keep younger visitors happy.
Take Your Time: Wander slowly, soaking in the sights and sounds. It’s not just about seeing the lights but experiencing the atmosphere (I know it can be hard with a toddler though!).

Fota Wildlife Park is right next to Fota House and Gardens, the town of Cobh is just 10 minutes away and Leahy's Open Farm isn't too far away either. Spend the morning exploring other family-friendly places in Cork before immersing yourself in the evening’s light-filled magic.
