Our Family Break At the Abbey Court Hotel, Nenagh, Tipperary

*Our stay was in collaboration with Tipperary Tourism, however, as always, all thoughts and opinions expressed are 100% my own.

This past weekend we had the pleasure of staying at the Abbey Court Hotel in Nenagh, Tipperary.

I have to admit, before our visit I was unsure of what the Nenagh area had to offer, but as it turns out, it's a great area for families to visit.

The Abbey Court Hotel acted as a great base for us as we explored the Lough Derg area. The hotel is clean - in fact, any time we walked through the lobby or halls there were members of staff cleaning, which is very reassuring to see, especially during these times we're living through.

The staff are incredibly friendly and so helpful. They were always up for a chat and made us feel perfectly welcome, it made our stay a whole lot lovelier.

Our room was great. It was able to sleep five as it had three single beds in one room and a double bed in a separate room. For a family it was a great room to have. It's always great when we stay places and the boys have their own separate room within our room so that we can get them to sleep peacefully - it's always much harder when we're all in one room.

We received a lovely welcome with fresh fruit and sweet treats laid out for us - thank you to the hotel staff for this extra loveliness! The room had everything we needed and it was great to see precautions put in place for protection against Covid, such as bagged coffee cups, milk, sugar and coffee.

The toiletries in the bathroom were also bagged and it was great to have these precautions but still the little luxuries of a hotel stay.

We had plenty of space in our room and it was lovely and quiet too - we weren't disturbed during our stay at all.

The Abbey Court Hotel has a great leisure centre too - visits must be pre-booked before your stay (1 hour slots). The boys had a great time swimming and were absolutely wrecked afterwards! Towels were provided within our room for use within the leisure centre.

The hotel also has a lovely little garden area which I took the boys out to one night after dinner. It's a great place to sit and relax or let the kids burn off some energy before bed.

The food in the hotel is great. We ate in the bar the two nights during our stay and everything we had was delicious. The portions are great and it's fantastic value for money. Even my picky eater children cleared their plates! I highly recommend trying the chicken Cesar salad - it was delicious! Jacek really enjoyed the salmon on one night and the beef on the second night too.

Breakfast each morning was great too. We chose 8 o' clock for our breakfast as my children are always up early and it was lovely and quiet. Cereals, juices and pastries are brought to your table. You queue up for hot food - but we were always the only ones there during our breakfast time so great social distancing was in place!

The hotel is a great and comfortable base for exploring the Lough Derg area. It's close enough to lots of great places and the town of Nenagh itself is lovely, with Nenagh Castle just a short walk from the hotel. I'm also told there's a great playground in the area, but unfortunately we didn't have time to go there during our stay.

The Aqua Splash at Dromineer is also a short drive away from the hotel and the hotel actually offer a half day pass to the Aqua Splash as part of their Family Activity Break offer and we'd highly recommend a visit. It was so much fun and taking a peddle boat around Lough Derg was one of the best laughs we've had this year!

We had a fantastic family stay at the Abbey Court Hotel and I highly recommend a stay there to anyone who wants to explore the North Tipperary, Lough Derg, Limerick or Clare area.
