5 Ways to Revitialise Your Home’s Exterior

In this blog, we’ll look at five great ways of revitalising your home’s exterior, the benefits they can offer and how much they may cost. Let’s dive in!

New Front Door

One relatively simple way of giving your home’s exterior a new lease of life is to have a new front door added to your home.

Simply changing your front door can add a livelier, more visually striking and appealing look to the front of your property.

Among the most common options are composite doors, uPVC front doors, mahogany doors, solid oak doors, and pine doors. You may also want to consider opting for a custom-made door, although this option can be particularly expensive, often coming with a cost of £1,000 or more.

Aside from the type of front door in terms of the material used, you’ll also want to consider the design/style and colour of the door.

2. Exterior Painting

Another, more extensive although costlier approach to improving the outdoor appearance of your home is by having it painted.

Depending on the size of your home and the type of paint being used (among other potential factors), it may cost somewhere in the region of £500 to £2,000. This work often takes somewhere in the region of three to ten days.

In some cases, a DIY approach may be possible. And while this could cost some money, you should only do so if it’s safe and you know exactly what’s involved. If in any doubt, always hire a professional.

3. New Roof

If your roof is particularly old or/and worn-down, it may be a good idea to have it replaced. That is to say, having the roof tiles/shingles replaced with a new, fresher roof, whether of the same material and design or something new.

Damaged or missing roof tiles can lead to a range of problems including allowing water to leak into your home which can lead to substantial damage that may even pose a safety hazard by undermining the structure of your home such as the walls and even the property’s foundation.

As a result, having a roof replaced is often not simply a matter of improving your home’s exterior appearance but can help maintain its functionality and stop issues such as roof leaking in their tracks.

Please note that if your roof is leaking, there’s a good chance that there will be damage beneath that needs addressing.

Therefore, if having an old or/and worn-down roof replaced (and whether or not you have seen direct signs of roof leaking), you should ask a suitable professional to inspect your property (inside and out) in a safe manner to determine if there is any damage that needs repairing. This is important to ensure your home is safe from any potential damage that could have resulted from a leaking roof.

Ultimately, having a roof replaced is likely to cost somewhere in the region of £2,000 to £7,000, although in case of Mansard roofs pricing is often much higher, generally costing over £15,000. Of course, the material of the new roofing will also shape the total cost.

4. Driveway Installation

Having a driveway added can also revitalise your home’s exterior while improving its kerb appeal.

Depending on the type of material used and the size of the driveway, a professional installation (including labour and supply only costs) is likely to end up somewhere in the region of £1,000 to £8,000, although large concrete and block paving drives can often cost up to around £12,000 or more.

The most popular driveway materials include block paving, concrete, gravel, resin and tarmac. Of course, the cost can also vary depending on the design and what sort of additional work might be needed.

5. Have Cladding Or/And Rendering Added

You may want to have existing cladding replaced, although this is generally only needed once every 50-60 years on average, thus may only be applicable to those with fairly old properties featuring old, worn-down cladding.

When it comes to having cladding or/and rendering replaced, you’ll likely need to hire a professional. Only if you’re absolutely sure what’s required for either or both of these tasks along all safety precautions, should you consider it.

Even then, it’s generally not seen as a good idea considering the complexity of the work and the risk of getting things wrong, let alone potential safety hazards from working at a height.

To hire a professional to add new cladding to your home will likely cost somewhere in the region of £1,500 to £7,000. As for a professional introducing a new render to your property, it will probably cost about £3,000 to £7,000.
