Ways to Keep Your Family Healthy During Holiday Travel

For many families, traveling is synonymous with the holidays. Whether your travels take you to a neighboring city, state or country, there’s no question that leaving your home for an extended period of time exposes you to a variety of germs. With all its fun and excitement, holiday traveling can also be stressful and weaken your immune response.

To make sure your holiday travels are as enjoyable and sniffle-free as possible, it’s important to be proactive. Here are a few great ways to keep your family healthy throughout the busy holiday traveling season.

Traveling First Aid Kit

Nothing can derail your holiday plans as quickly as a head cold or a bout of stomach flu. What’s even worse than getting ill right before traveling for the holidays is getting ill during your holiday vacation. But if you’re prepared, getting sick in the middle of a road trip doesn’t have to be catastrophic. Just pack and bring a traveling first aid kit along with you. Here are a few suggestions for items to put in your kit:

  • Antacids
  • Pain relievers
  • Cough drops
  • Anti-nausea pills
  • Immune booster drops
  • Sleeping pills
  • Allergy pills
  • Anti-diarrheal pills

The items above can come in handy if you’re on the road and begin experiencing unpleasant symptoms of allergies or an impending head cold. Immune booster drops are important to take at the first sign of illness because they can give your immune system the support it needs to fight off whatever germs you’ve encountered.

Stick to a Healthy Diet

It’s pretty easy to throw caution to the wind and indulge in whatever sweets and processed foods you want to while you’re traveling. But being too lax about what you eat can harm your immune system and make it easier for germs to make it past your body’s defenses.

Sticking to a healthy diet as much as possible while traveling for the holidays is in your best interest. It will help you fight off illnesses and will give you the energy you need to have the most enjoyable holiday experience. If your kids start to cough due to itchy or irritated throats from dry air in the car or airplane cabin, have them suck on soothing organic elderberry sore throat lollipops. In addition to soothing dry throats, elderberry lollipops will also provide important immune system support.

Get Good Rest

It’s natural to experience some disruption in sleep schedules when you’re traveling. But try to avoid too many late nights if possible by planning hotel stays to break up your road trip or avoiding red-eye flights. Good rest is essential for optimal immune function. It’s easier for your body to fall ill if deprived of adequate sleep. If your kids seem a little more run-down and sleepy than usual due to insufficient or poor-quality sleep from busy holiday traveling schedules, give them an immune booster supplement and feed them immune-boosting foods.

Holiday traveling doesn’t have to result in stress, exhaustion and illness. Keep the above tips in mind to keep yourself and your family members healthy and happy while traveling for the holidays this year.
