5 Stylish Decor Ideas For Your Living Room

Photographer

The living room is one of the most important rooms in the house. It's where everyone relaxes and gets to spend time together and as a lot of time is spent in the living room, you want it to be as lovely a space as possible to be in.

As we have young children, our living room has to serve as a functional space all, but that doesn't mean it has to be any less stylish. Here are some design ideas for your living room, to make the room as beautiful and to your own personal style as it can be.

1. Display Wall Art

Displaying wall art in your living room can be a great way of creating a focal point in your room. Whether you display some wall art above your fireplace or framed prints above your couch, having art on display within your living room can really draw focus to particular areas of the room.

Wall art can be great for incorporating a theme within your living room too. Whether it be coastal with blue hues and seaside prints or green with botanical or forest prints, whatever your colour scheme and theme there's bound to be a piece of wall art to suit.

We're currently giving our main living room a makeover and the theme is spring, so I'm really drawn to the colour palette of this pretty in pink wall art collection. I plan to create a gallery wall of different sized framed prints above the couch and I think it'll make for a lovely feature within the living room.

Wall art allows you to inject your own personality within your living room and it can be a great affordable way of having art within your home.

2. Bring the Outdoors Indoors

Having some greenery or flowers within your living room can be a great way of bringing the outdoors indoors. Plants and flowers have actually become a real style staple in homes in recent times and having some greenery in your home is a great way of freshening up a space.

Think displaying plants in a corner of your room by a side table or around the fireplace. You could even have seasonal garlands on display above your mantelpiece for a real greenery feature within your living room.

3. Have a Feature Wall

Whether it's using a different paint colour to draw attention to a particular wall in your living room or hanging a printed wallpaper, having a feature wall can be a great design idea for a living room.

Wallpaper can be a great way of injecting a theme or a slice of your own personality into your living room decor. Another really popular feature for rooms at the moment is paneling. There are lots of great posts demonstrating how to DIY a panel wall and it can make for a really beautiful feature within a living room.

 4. Embrace the Soft Furnishings

If you want your living room to be a cosy space, lots of soft furnishings are a must. A large floor rug is a great idea for rooms with wooden floors to make them feel warmer. Coordinate with the room colour to tie everything in together.

Blankets draped on the couch can make for a lovely cosy setting and a nice display piece when they're not being used on the colder evenings.

Scatter cushions and long curtains make for cosy feeling living rooms too.

5. Make Your Storage Stylish

As well as being a relaxing place to sit and unwind, living rooms, especially for families, need to be functional spaces too. Having lots of storage is essential, but that doesn't mean that you need big, bulky or unsightly storage solutions within your living room.

Built-in selves within the alcoves beside the fireplace can be a great idea. They can be designed how you wish and made to fit perfectly. Having cupboards underneath for storing toys, etc. is a great idea and with shelves on top, it can make for a lovely feature and space for displaying photographs, trinkets or anything else you'd like to see in your living room.

Beautiful furniture with built-in storage is a great idea too. Think coffee tables with drawers, couches with lift up seats and stylish side tables with lots of drawers.
