Christmas is truly the most wonderful time of year! Everyone is so
much happier with a pinch of festive cheer, and the magic comes back to
life once you have children. Being at home with your family is one of
the best feelings in the world, and therefore, I thought I’d put
together a blog about how you can cosy up your home around the Christmas
period!
Sprinkle Some Festivity
The most obvious way to
start feeling festive is by adding some Christmas decorations! Play some
Christmas music, snack on some mince pies and decorate the tree with
the family. My advice is to select decorations which you love and allow
your personality to shine through.
Rejig Soft Furnishings
As
the dark and cold nights draw in, the perfect way to getting cosy is to
cuddle up on the sofa. Adding personality, layers and textures through
your soft furnishings allow you to create a cosy haven in which you can
retreat to after a long day. Whether you opt for some festive patterns,
such as a snowflake blanket or a Christmas slogan cushion, there are a
number of ways you can inexpensively add a bit of festive charm to your
interior, all while adding cosiness too!
Go Warm With Lighting
Forget fluorescent lights and say hello to
amber filament bulbs! The warming hue of the lightbulb makes it the
perfect way to add a slice of cosiness to your interior. Amber light is a
lot softer on the eye and allows you to relax and unwind when it’s
cascaded across a room. Industrial style lights are the ideal
accompaniment for filament bulbs, as they both have vintage aesthetics.
Think About The Colour Scheme
Do you go for traditional gold, red and greens? Or favour something
more modern like silver and pale pinks? A colour scheme helps you to
have focus when you’re decorating for Christmas. You could choose
colours which complement your home interior, for example, if your home
focuses on a darker colour palette you could opt for jewel-tone
decorations. If you’ve got fond memories from childhood Christmases, why
not try to relive these through your home this year? If your childhood
home had a particular colour scheme, you could replicate this for a
touch of nostalgia.
Add A Festive Fragrance
Think cinnamon,
mulled wine and gingerbread, this time of year is when you are able to
go a little extra with your home’s aroma. Whether you opt to light
candles throughout your home or use longer-lasting reed diffusers, there
are so many festive fragrances around. Depending on the type of scents
you prefer, will determine your festive aroma. For me, I prefer a winter
spice aroma this time of year, with notes of cinnamon and a touch of
orange!
Invest In A Rug
With the temperatures dropping and
if you have laminate flooring, invest in a rug! There is nothing worse
than stepping onto a cold floor with bare feet and utilising rugs will
help trap heat which is trying to escape. There are so many patterns and
styles that you will most definitely find the perfect one for you.
There is also the option to find a festive patterned rug, to inject a
little more festivity into your interior!
I hope these tips for
cosying up your home for Christmas have inspired you to think about your
décor. We spend a lot more time at home during Christmas, so it’s the
perfect time to add some little touches to help make your home the
cosiest abode this year! How do you plan to cosy up your home this
season? I’d love to know what you’ve got planned!
Such a lovely post. I love making our home extra cosy for Christmas.
