Classic Christmas Gift Ideas For Children

*Denotes a PR sample has been given in exchange for feature.

Christmas shall soon be upon us and one part of Christmas I always look forward to is deciding what to gift the children with.

In this day and age there is a huge focus on tech based toys and gaming, but what if you want to take the more classic route when it comes to gifting the children?

Here are my top picks for classic Christmas gifts for children, with not a battery in sight!

1. A bike
This is such a lovely gift for any child to receive at Christmas and is top of my eldest son's Santa list this Christmas. I still remember receiving a bike from Santa as a child and it's such a lovely Christmas memory from my childhood.

A bike is a wonderful Christmas gift for a child because it can used all year round, keeps them active whilst getting lots of fresh air and is something that can be stored outside the house - yay for no clutter!

I am in love with Banwood bicyles. They have two colour options for their pedal bicycles - white and pink and the faux tan leather touches and wicker basket are gorgeous traditional touches. They also have a range of beautiful balance bikes too if you're wanting to gift a younger child a bike - the navy colourway is beautiful! Banwood bicycles are €295 and balance bikes are €159.

2. A nursery set*
Again, this is a lovely gift which will be used all year round and is something children love as they get to have their own plate, bowl and cup with a design/character that they love.

Being a huge Peter Rabbit lover I am in love with the Beatrix Potter 2-Piece Nursery Set by Enesco, who have a wide range of beautiful Beatrix Potter themed gifts. The nursery set is £35 and is a lovely gift for any child this Christmas.

3. A new pair of shoes/boots*
Anything a child can wear is always a great gift idea in my book and each year as a child I was always gifted with footwear or an outfit by relatives. I'm all for practical gifts that will actually get used and how beautiful are these unisex Jodhpur boots from Bobux? These are available in a range of colours, are such great quality and would make for a lovely classic gift for a child this Christmas

4. A rocking horse
This is probably the ultimate classic gift for a child and rocking horses never go out of fashion. We gifted our youngest son with a beautiful white rocking horse and he loved it! At just £34.99 it made for a lovely affordable gift that was not only fun for him to play with, but that looked beautiful in his nursery/bedroom too. I got Beau's from Amazon and there's still some for sale on there with some great deals to be had.

5. A rainbow stacker*
Wooden rainbow stackers are such a lovely gift and fun for children of all ages. There are so many colour variations in these to choose from but my favourite is the Ocamora Blue 9 Piece Arch Stacker (£68.50), available from Luna & Cash. Again, this is a gift that will not only bring lots of fun - my boys make lots of creations out of theirs as it makes for great open-ended play, but it also looks great in their room when it's not being played it.

6. A cuddly toy
This is a real classic gift option for children and one they're sure to love. My two boys can't get enough of cuddly friends and it's so adorable to see them playing with them. One of the most classic teddy bear brands is Steiff and the Steiff Elmar Teddy Bear (£50) is one of the most adorable ones there is. This would make such a lovely, special gift for a child this Christmas.

If you're looking for a character cuddly toy to gift a child with this Christmas then you can't go wrong with one of the best classic characters of all - Peter Rabbit! This GUND Peter Rabbit large soft toy (£19.95) is so adorable and cuddly and very smart looking in his beautiful blue jacket. He'd make a lovely cuddly gift this Christmas.

7. Pull-along wagon
This is another gift which my boys received many years ago and it's one of the best gifts they've ever gotten. It's so lovely and classic and the Radioflyer brand is great. These wagon's come in a range of sizes but we got the large on so they could both sit in it, you can buy the same one as ours here for £141.51.

This has been on many outings and it's lovely to see them have little picnics in it as well as giving their cuddly toys a spin around the garden in it.

8. A playhouse
A playhouse is something I was gifted with as a child and I loved it! I knew when I became a parent that I'd have to gift my children with one too and that's just what I did. It's made for a lovely little space for the boys to play house and is great for extra storage for all their toys too!

The playhouse I got them is the Walton's 7X5 Honeypot Snowdrop Cottage Playhouse with Loft (£439.99) and we get so many compliments on it. This would make for an extra special gift for a child this Christmas and with lots of playhouse sizes and budgets to choose from, there really is something for everyone.

9. A ride-on
Again, this is a lovely classic gift for a child and if you want to stick with a classic/vintage looking ride-on I can't recommend Baghera enough. This is the brand of ride-on car we bought for our youngest son and not only does it look beautiful, it gives him so much fun too!

If you'd rather a wooden ride-on then I highly recommend the Moover Ride-on Dump Truck* (£69.99). This comes in classic red or natural wood and is a beautiful toy! It has a compartment for storing or dumping out toys or whatever else your little one finds. It's such a lovely toy and would make for a perfect Christmas gift.
