4 Family-Friendly Attractions Close To London ♥

London might draw the vast majority of the UK’s tourists - but there’s tonnes to do in the
cities and towns nearby too. From Brighton to Bedford to Hemel Hempstead and beyond, the
opportunities for fun family days out are endless.

As a family of four we know the importance of spending quality time together. We might be
based in the south of Ireland, but we love visiting London and the nearby areas when we can.
Here are four of our favourite tried-and-tested family days out close to England’s capital.

Brighton Beach
The super-cool seaside city of Brighton has a lot going for it. The Royal Pavilion is a historic
fairy-tale palace that’s well worth a wander around, while you can easily spend hours looking
through the independent boutiques that line its colourful streets.

The main attraction for us however has to be Brighton beach. It might not be easy clambering
over its pebbles, but the water is clean and makes a great spot for a swim on a sunny day –
ideally before you fill up on hot dogs and candy floss on the pier!

Woburn Safari Park
Have you been on a family safari before? We hadn’t until we visited this vast park close to
Bedford and Milton Keynes. You could spot white rhino, elephants, tigers, black bears and
more, all from the comfort of your family car!

We managed to take advantage of a special offer, which made an entry ticket for a vehicle of
four a little more manageable.

Herrings Green Farm
Our kids love visiting any kind of farm, but this one in Bedford really sticks in the memory.
As well as the rabbits, reptiles, horses and all other kinds of animal encounters, we loved the
birds of prey centre and managed to get photos of our little ones getting up close and personal
with some beautiful owls!

We actually visited the farm after our stopover in Brighton, and found the train from Brighton
to Bedford a breeze.

The Snow Centre
This ski slope in Hemel Hempstead boasts the ‘closest real snow to London’ – and it really
does feel like real snow! They offer a range of beginners and advanced lessons for all ages, or
solo sessions if you just want to brush up on your technique.

It’s almost as much fun to watch the skiers and snowboarders from the cosy café if you don’t
feel like having a go yourself.

Are you planning a trip outside the capital anytime soon? Let us know if you find any other fun spots for a family day out.
