Is Looking Good At the Gym Important? ♥

Is looking good at the gym important? In a word yes, to some people it's a really important factor of going to the gym.

From my own experience, looking good at the gym IS important to me - probably because it took a lot of building up my self confidence in the first place to go there! I wear makeup going to the gym, even though by the end of a workout it's sweating off my face! I'm also conscious of the outfits I wear there, how flattering they are and how I style my hair so that I don't look like a total mess at the end of a workout!

In a survey by Buyshirtsonline, who specialise in gym and fitness club t-shirt printing, it was revealed that looking good at the gym was an important factor for 55% of women, 60% of 35-44 year old and a whopping 71% of people in the Midlands. These are huge numbers!

84% of respondents admitted to taking selfies after a workout - I'm afraid I'm one of these people! Although, I don't often share the selfies but have them saved to my phone to document my own progress.

37% of respondents admitted to posting progress updates of their workouts and gym sessions on their social media - I'm one of these people too, usually sharing Instastories when I'm at the gym.

A sad number, and a bracket I used to fall into, is that 44% of people stated that their body image and confidence had held them back from attending a gym. I used to be one of these people, and even now I still have days where I feel like I don't want to go because I'm not as fit and toned as other gym users, but honestly, no one is bothered by anyone else at a gym. No one is judging anyone else and after all, no one would be at a gym if they weren't trying to improve some aspect of their body and fitness. It's this that I keep telling myself when I'm having a low day.

1 in 10 people surveyed have dated someone that they met at the gym and although I'm not one of these people, I can definitely see how this could happen. I notice people who train weights are all quite friendly and helpful with each other and have formed their own little social scene. It must be great to connect with people with similar fitness goals and interests and I can see how attractions could happen through this medium.

34% of people surveyed stated that they constantly buy new gym gear to look good at the gym. Although my bank balance doesn't stretch to 'constantly' buying new gym gear, I do buy new tops and workout leggings whenever I can because I am conscious about being seen in the same outfits again and again.

The survey is really interesting and is definitely one to read if you're like myself and have an interest in all things gym and fitness related.

Do you think it's important to look good at the gym?
