Bedtime has thankfully never really been a struggle in our house. We've had a set bedtime routine ever since the boys were newborns and it's a routine we've stuck to til this day. Routine works for us as a family and with two boys who have a huge abundance of energy, I find having certain bedtime rituals - such as a bedtime story each night, and aids - such as nightlights and lullabies, helps them to calm down and enjoy a good nights sleep.
Since the clocks changed back in March and the evenings have become a lot brighter, the boys have been quite confused about why they're going to bed when it's still bright outside and it has made it a little bit harder for them to relax once they get into bed.
Thankfully, I've found something that really helps to calm the boys and help them to drift off to sleep in a calming and mood-lit atmosphere and that is Lumie Bedbug (£59.95).
Bedbug offers fully adjustable bedside lighting to change, feed, read to and settle your little one at bedtime. I love this feature as I've just begun giving Beau his bottle to drink himself in his cot while I read to him and I have the brighter, white light on - this white light emits almost none of the stimulating blue light that might keep little ones awake.
When I'm finished reading and it's time for Beau to settle and go to sleep, Bedbug has a gradual sunset feature which provides a gentle light transition to nighttime. The fading light mimics the colour of a real sunset, which creates a lovely, calming atmosphere and which promotes children's natural sleep response. I love this feature of Bedbug as I'm all for anything that naturally helps my children to sleep better.
There is an option for Bedbug to fade to complete darkness, but both of my boys prefer to sleep with a nightlight, so I leave the Bedbug on with it's comforting orange glow all night.
The controls on Bedbug are silent, allowing you to check on your child and change the illumination without disturbing them - this is great as I do check on both the boys before I go to sleep for the night myself. It's also great if Tyler needs to get up for the toilet in the middle of the night or if Beau wakes and cries for his dodie.
Bedbug has been a real hit with both the boys and myself, Beau has even fallen asleep next to it at times, I think he finds it quite comforting and it's so lovely to know that he has these things to reassure him if he wakes during the night.
I highly recommend Bedbug to any parents who are looking for a comforting, functional and natural sleep promoting nightlight for their little ones. Bedbug has been a great asset for the boys bedtime routines - especially during these brighter evenings and it really is a lovely, calming nightlight which they love.

Lumie Bedbug Nightlight
Yes we have a routine. PJ's, story, song and then bed. Find a routine that works and stick to it. Children secretly love routine and knowing what to expect.
ReplyDeleteyes, always a set bedtime and stick to the same routine leading up to bedtime
ReplyDeleteBath, warm drink and wind down then story/reading and bed. After bath time, my children aren't allowed to use any multimedia so they usually choose to read, watch a little tv or do a jigsaw.
ReplyDeleteWould love this for our little girl when she goes into her own room. Her cot is currently in our room so she is used to our lumie clock. Love our lumie, it’s made such a difference to my waking and sleep.
ReplyDeleteI try to get the kids to bed by 19:30 weekdays and 20:00 at weekends.
ReplyDeleteBATH AT 7PM AND THEN STORY IN BED BUILDS A GREAT NIGHT TIME ROUTINE THAT WILL LAST YEARS
ReplyDeleteEntered for my little lady, great prize. Have never heard of this brand so I'm off to Google more about them. Seems great especially the fact it is a white light. :)
ReplyDeleteWe always follow a routine as I believe it helps with security and expectation. A warm bath, bottle and a bedtime story always worked for us.
ReplyDeleteRoutine is one of the most important things in a childs bedtime....we always do bath, milk and story!
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed reading your review on the Lumie light,Thank you.
ReplyDeleteTo get my kids to sleep we always give them a bath and read a bedtime story it works every time
ReplyDeletewe have always kept a strict bedtime routine and seems to have worked with all three!
ReplyDeleteOur bedtime routine leaves something to be desired as it's changeable due to various extra curricular activities that push it back e.g. Brownies, swimming etc. But it's basically reading and cuddles with Mummy until little one falls asleep, then my older girl is either usually already asleep or is fine to drop off by herself.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter has bedtimes for my grandchildren so they get a goodnights sleep its better and you get you time as a parent this is also depending on my youngest granddaughter teething lol
ReplyDeleteI don't have any kids so no tips from me but I would love to win for my best friend, who had her first baby last week
ReplyDeleteI just try to make it as relaxing as possible - bath, warm milky drink, story in bed.My son has autism and sensory difficulties so has trouble sleeping and waking, this light is a fantastic idea
ReplyDeleteNot really, bedtime is a struggle, my daughter doesn't seem to need much sleep
ReplyDeleteWe always try to follow a routine, especially a time for going to bed, its lovely to get some quiet time in the evening
ReplyDeleteRoutine - we find its the only sure way to get little ones off to sleep

ReplyDeleteyes mostly a set routine
ReplyDeletewith mine its usually bath, milk and cookies then bed x
ReplyDeleteI think a good bedtime routine always helps to cause less stress to children and parents as well as grandparents,i always stick to my daughters routine at bedtime with my two grandchildren as ive found that the minute anything changes everything goes pear shaped,i found this out once when we had a late emergency and archies rountine had to change, the day after archie was so cranky and mischievous and at night he screamed and refused to go to bed,it was a complete nightmare,to help archie sleep we leave the bathroom light on all night, this lumie light would be perfect for us to try.
ReplyDeleteThe have a book through the week the short film Friday and Saturday as a treat
ReplyDeleteWe have a strict bedtime rountine in my house, its been going on since they were born, now at age 4 and 8, when they see its time for bed, they actually ask to go to bed! Its brilliant!
ReplyDeleteOur routine is just bath, story, bed - and then hoping she stays in it! :)
ReplyDeleteSet routine, bath, story, cuddles and sleep,
ReplyDeleteI would say a nice warm bath. Comfy pjs. If the room is hot maybe a fan on. Every child is different. Go with your gut. Xx
ReplyDeleteMy son has either TV time and then bed or a book then bed but my two youngest have their bottles in bed while I read a story I then sing songs and then we have quiet time which is when I take their bottles away and let them snuggle down to sleep.
ReplyDeleteWe always follow a routine as the kids settle better
ReplyDeleteThank you for the advice! In my experience bedtime routines are necessary to avoid stress and be balanced!
ReplyDeleteYes & stick with it... you & the kids will benefit
ReplyDeleteA nice warm bath
ReplyDeleteI do follow a set routine - bath, and a good story and maybe a little chat about the days events
ReplyDeleteA comfortable and relaxing bedtime routine has to be the main word...relaxing. Take time to take them for a bath with lots of bubbles, make them nice and warm. A small snack or warm drink and then a bedtime story. No watching TV as it keeps the mind stimulated and wants to carry on.
ReplyDeleteI did yes, my daughter is 17 now, and this will be for my Niece and Nephew, I'd say, the rountines changed through her growing, and pick your battles!
ReplyDeleteI always followed a set routine, bath, warm drink, bed and a little story to get them off.
ReplyDeleteYes I think a routine is really important. My tips are no screens and get them relaxed with a bath and a story.
ReplyDeleteYes I advise to turn all light out and all electronics away by 9pm and watching a film before bed helps
ReplyDeleteI am a strong believer of routine, iv never had any major issues when it come to bed time.
ReplyDeleteBed time story before bed
ReplyDeleteOh absolutely a set routine. Same time every night (maybe a little later on weekends) Tidy up, washed and into PJs. Glass of milk and a biscuit, brush teeth, into bed and storytime. Then goodnight kisses and I love you, it's time to sleep. Usually mum is more ready for bed than the kids though...lol
ReplyDeleteWe try to stick to bath and story before bed.
ReplyDeletewarm bath with lavender and then bedtime story nice and calm
ReplyDeleteI try reading a story to my daughter whilst she is on my lap downstairs and then when she is starting to nod off, take her up to her room to finish it, if I even suggest going up to bed beforehand she has a mini tantrum
ReplyDeleteAlways the same routine ...bath,warm drink and a bed time story x
ReplyDeletemy advice would be make a routine and stick to it!!!
ReplyDeletethe slightest of changes to bedtime routine can throw little ones out for days! or it does with mine anyway!!
Routine is the key, without it, pure chaos!
ReplyDeleteSet routine bath, bed , story and cuddles
ReplyDeleteWe have a strict bedtime routine which works with varying degrees of success
ReplyDeletewe follow a bedtime otherise it would be madness in our house
ReplyDeleteI always try to keep to a set time for bedtime which seems to have worked with all three of my sons. They have also always had reading time and a small drink before the light is turned off.
ReplyDeleteNice bubble bath then settle down with a hot milk and a story
ReplyDeleteWe try to have a set bedtime routine but it often takes us a long time to sleep, but it does help if we have a chance to unwind before bed and have a bath and hot milky drink.
ReplyDeleteYes we have always had a routine of dink of water, teeth, read a book then lights out
ReplyDeleteyes definite routine in our house! it goes something like this - tea bath warm milky drink storytime and sleep.
ReplyDeleteI don't really have a proper bedtime routine, it is something I would like to get into.
ReplyDeleteWe have bath, book, story and cuddles
ReplyDeleteMy kids always went to bed at the same time every night when they were young. I read them a story and then it was lights out xx
ReplyDeleteThey have a bath every night. After their bath they're allowed to relax with one cartoon for half an hour or so before I put them to bed with a story. Never seem to have any problems with this.
ReplyDeleteWe have always stuck to the same method. After dinner it is bath time, then relax with story before bed
ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing and would help with a nice calm routine!
ReplyDeleteOur routine is Bath, watch a short show of their chose whilst they are getting their jimjams on, book and bed.
ReplyDeleteI advise to fine a routine that works for you and stick to it.
We try and stick to a rountine but it goes out the window quite often! Bath reading then bed is the plan though
ReplyDeleteWe just do a story & then songs. It works most of the time!
ReplyDeleteI have quite a strict routine, bath then a story with a drink if they want one, then it's time for snuggling down with their teddy and lights out
ReplyDeletewe try very hard to stick to a set routine---`Repetition is the key to success`
ReplyDeleteSame routine every night, which is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteYes we do and I think routine is very important :)
ReplyDeletewe find reading together is a must, and then a 'bigger book' that only we read to them. That normally makes them fall asleep... Must be our monotone voices!
ReplyDeleteYes! We do a bedtime routine starting with a nice relaxing bubble bath then cuddles and a bedtime story!
ReplyDeletethe same routine every night
ReplyDeleteYes, we always do bath, drink and read a book. It works for us!
ReplyDeleteRoutines are always a good idea! A story before bed usually works a treat!
ReplyDeleteWe try to have a bath, drink and snack and then story in bed :)
ReplyDeleteRoutine is one of the most important things in a childs bedtime - like clockwork.
ReplyDeleteHaving a routine gives the child a sense of security, having a warm bath and no tv for the last 30 minutes or so before bedtime gives them a sense of calm and prepares them for bed,
ReplyDeleteWe have a routine of bath, pyjamas, milk, story and bed which has always worked really well for us
ReplyDeleteI find that you have to work with you child's personality to find something that works. My daughter has bath & a book, then is allowed 'quiet time' playing in her room for an hour before the light goes off. This helps her wind down and then she takes herself to bed by herself when she's ready with no tears.
ReplyDeleteThis would be amazing to win for my friend who is due in August ♡♡
ReplyDelete(Lucy Beckett) the blog won't let me comment as just my name.
We do have a bedtime routine, it mostly works but there's the odd night or week in a row where it all goes wrong. My advice to other parents is don't stress about it and just enjoy it when it all goes to plan. Any way out routine is bath followed by a story, like I say we have good success with it but there's also the times where it doesn't go to plan!
ReplyDeleteAlways read them a story
ReplyDeleteI tell my little ones 5 minutes before they are due to go to bed to give them time to wind down. The minute they put their PJs on, they seem to start getting tired. They have bedtime story which they love but, my little boy struggles often falling asleep and, because he falls asleep quite late, he struggles to get up for the school run in the morning. This wonderful prize would be such a great help, it really would.
ReplyDeleteseven o'clock bath, bed and story!
ReplyDeleteWe do, it's no playing after 6,30. Everyone watches TV for half an hour to calm down before their 7pm bedtime. Bedtime is the same time every day - as routine is key x
ReplyDeleteBath then snuggles with a story or relaxing music x
ReplyDeleteBath at 7pm and then story time with a kiss goodnight x
ReplyDeleteHave to admit I do not Have a routine. My kids are very good and just go to bed when they are tired. They sometimes put themselves to bed in the day if they are extra tired. This works for our lifestyle, but probably not for everyone
ReplyDeleteyes. I have little twins and i always been following a routine.
ReplyDeleteI try to get them to bed at a reasonable time with milk and cuddles
ReplyDeleteMy three all have routines, my 14 month old daughter has a bath at 6pm, baby massage at 6.30 and bed with a warm milk at 7pm, my five year old daughter has two stories instead of baby massage and goes to bed at 7.30pm and my 13 year old watches a film in bed from 9-10pm xxx
ReplyDeleteWe've always had a bed time routine since our daughter was 3 months old, although it varies slightly from time to time we never ever skip the bedtime story.
ReplyDeleteThe same with all four of my boys bath, story, song and sleep. They all went at the same time to bed. No TV's or screens.
ReplyDeleteIt is bath story snuggles and sleep. Seems to work well x
