Back we went to the sunflower field... one year on. My babies have grown immensely since our last visit, so much so that I don't even know if they 'baby' qualifies as a baby anymore and my oldest is a proper little boy, losing all his cute face chub and sprouting up like a weed - soon he'll overshadow us all, I'm sure of it.
I swore we'd return to this field the following August and I was determined to do so, even though the ever changeable Irish weather tried to put me off my plans and drowned all the sunflowers, I simply had to return for the photo opportunities.
These sunflowers were planted to reintroduce birds, bees and butterflies back to the area and I think that's the loveliest thing. As a nature lover, I love seeing people caring about wildlife and nature, embracing it and helping it along on it's way. One day, when we have our own garden, I'll do something similar - how lovely would it be to have a butterfly haven as a garden?
Tyler was excited to see the sunflowers just as much as I was. I was only sad that I hadn't found the field earlier - it had moved up the road since last year and I only stumbled upon it again last week, as the terrible weather we've been having poured down on the sunflowers, making the majority of them lose their petals and topple over. Nevertheless, it was still very beautiful out in the field and it was lovely seeing the boys take an interest in the big yellow flowers and the 'Upsy Daisy' flowers, as Tyler calls them, on the ground.
Hopefully we'll find the field a little sooner next year and snap some pictures surrounded by the towering, majestic sunflowers once more.

ReplyDeleteOhh i love how you returned the next year as well! Love the pictures! We recently had a sunflower patch planted near our area to attract bees and birds as well! I think its a fantastic idea!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great field to use a photo location and what a great way to gauge their growing up.
ReplyDeleteShame that the rain caused the petals to fall off the sunflowers but the field still looks pretty and nice that you took your boys back to this field.
