{The Ordinary Moments} Leafy Lanes ♥

Do you have a spot in your home town which you just love? A place you've been to so many times before but always find something new to look at when you're there?

I have a place like this on our island and it's a place I've been going to since I was a child, yet it has never lost it's charm and now my own children - especially Tyler, have grown quite fond of it too.

Since suffering with agoraphobia, I find myself being drawn towards places where I know there'll be few or no other people. I relish the tranquillity, solitude and special feeling that comes from having a scenic place all to yourself.

This week I visited this charming, crumbling leafy lane that leads down to the pebbly strand not once in a day but twice. The first time I pushed Beau along in his buggy, battling against the very worn and cratered road. Tyler walked ahead of us, always excited to get near water.

We stopped halfway down and I took some snaps of the boys sitting together on a big stone covered with ivy and lovely little purple flowers. They weren't the most perfect of pictures but oh how I love them. I captured the boys smiling to one another and capturing those moments on camera is what delights me most as both a budding photographer and a mother. I featured some of these pictures in this month's siblings project post.

When we got to the strand there was an old couple there, who I think may have been tourists as they had a 'D' reg car. Tyler spoke to them, him being the friendly and outgoing one out of both and Beau tried to make his way to the wet sand - I caught him just in time, which he was far from happy about.

I wish we could have stayed there a little longer, but I didn't want to leave the buggy unless someone took off with it and I also wasn't too keen on Beau getting filthy and wet. Sometimes I wish I could just let go of my inhibitions and let the boys do what they want to all the time, but it's not that simple. It's something that I'm working on though and hopefully I'll be a more laid back mummy soon.

Nevertheless, the three of us had a lovely sunny walk down that leafy lane and once we got back up the step hill and across the crumbling road, it was drinks all round - we were dying of thirst from the heat!

In the late afternoon we found ourselves in the lane again, this time with Jacek in tow. Having driven all the way round the back of the island we decided to go for a walk in the evening sunshine and the lane seemed to be the only fitting place.

Jacek walked behind us, taking pictures of the boys and I and also of me in my summer dress. I am not and will never be a model - does anyone else feel like an absolute fool posing for pictures?

We didn't make it down to the strand this time round, but Tyler had great fun trying to climb a gate into a field whilst Beau played with some leaves nearby.

It really is the ordinary moments that make children the happiest isn't it? No doubt we'll find ourselves back in our lovely leafy lane soon. After all, it's one of the loveliest picture taking spots, especially in autumn and that's not too far away at all.

  1. That looks like such a beautiful lane - so leafy and green and the photo of your boys is just gorgeous. I wish I had somewhere like that to wander near us x
