The Sunflower Field ♥

Last week, whilst driving my little darlings out back of the island to eat our lunch by the sea, I spotted an amazing sight on the top of the hill leading down to where we were headed - a field of beautiful, tall, golden sunflowers.

I was absolutely amazed, I had never seen anything like it on our island and I couldn't help but stop off there twice that day, once on my own with the boys and again in the evening once their daddy was home from work, (hence Tyler Lee's change of clothes) to capture some photos with these beautiful flowers offering the perfect backdrop to our family fun.

I played hide and seek with my babies amongst the tall sunflower stalks and the other wild flowers that were blooming in the field. Tyler Lee thought it was the most hilarious and exciting thing ever and had great fun trying to find Beau and I as we hid down on the ground. His joy at such a simple thing was so lovely to witness, it made me excited for years to come when I'll be able to watch him and Beau playing these little games together.

I found out from my stepdad that these sunflowers were planted to reintroduce bees, butterflies and birds back to the area and that made them even more special to me. The plan is definitely working too, as there were so many bees buzzing around and butterflies fluttering by, it was just so lovely there and that's why I had to visit twice.

On the other side of the road at the top of the hill was a field full of maize, which Tyler Lee and I called 'the fluffy field'. He ran through the field, crouching down behind the crop to hide from me, wanting to continue with our fun and games from across the road with the sunflowers.

It was such a beautiful day and with the late summer sunshine warming our skin I just wished we could have stayed out there for longer. Summer evenings were made for this - loved ones, sunshine and beautiful nature.

I was so hoping to visit a sunflower field this week as I read one was open for Picking your own sunflowers, but they've sold out within days and the field is bare now...gutted!

  3. Oh my goodness these are such beautiful photos. What a lovely idea to plant the field to encourage the little critters. There is a sunflower field at the lavender farm near us, it's not as beautiful as this though. Thanks for linking up to #SundayBest x
