Our First Week As A Family Of Four ♥

As you may have read or seen on social media, our beautiful baby boy Beau Samuel James arrived into the world last Thursday and our lives as a family of four began. It's been a crazy, amazing week and a rather busy one - as you can imagine, life with a very active three year old and a newborn baby means that the days are all just melting into one, Jacek and I have barely had a chance to eat or have a drink! It's all worth it though and we're so lucky to be blessed with two beautiful and healthy boys.

Beau and I were discharged from hospital on Sunday and I was beyond anxious to get home. I missed Tyler Lee so much and it was breaking my heart hearing him on the phone saying "I miss you mummy", him and I have spent everyday together for three years so being apart was a big adjustment for us both. I was so emotional and teary in hospital, especially as Beau was getting blood tests done due to his jandice, my poor baby has had blood taken from him eight times now and he's only a week old tonight.

Tyler Lee is still a bit cautious about his new brother. He does interact with the baby, he says good morning and good night, he's asked to hold him and says he loves him but he has been upset about him being here and has been acting up a bit. One minute he's so affectionate and the next minute he can be crying or trying to hit for no reason at all. I think it's all for attention as he feels a bit threatened by the baby's presence or that he may be forgotten about. Jacek and I have been trying to reassure him that everything is okay and have been spending as much time with him as possible but it's going to take awhile for him to come around to having Beau here I think.

Amazingly, Jacek and I have been able to take the boys out everyday. It does take awhile to leave the house through feeds, nappy changes, clothing changes, packing bags, etc. but we have gotten out and that's an achievement in itself for us! It's lovely being out and about in the sunshine with our boys and I think getting out together is helping Tyler Lee adjust to life with the baby as he's seeing that he can still do things and go places with mummy and daddy.

Beau has been sleeping really well too. His main feeding times are from 7.30 in the morning, where he could have two bottles in close succession to each other and the same from 7.30 in the night, but he then sleeps from 9.30/10 until 2.30/3, stays awake until around 4 and is then asleep until 7 when Tyler Lee comes into our room to say good morning. We've been blessed and we're so grateful as I'm not sure we could function without our sleep!

I'm not going to lie, our washing machine has been going non-stop, the house has been in absolute chaos at times and Jacek and I have been absolutely starving at times from not having time to eat through looking after the boys, but it's actually been more manageable than I thought it would be! I'm actually surprised that we've had playground trips, walks, photo sessions (even though Tyler Lee won't let us take a picture of him at the moment) and everything in between. I thought we'd be living like hermits for at least another week or two but we're doing well.

So that's been our first week as a family of four and it's been a lovely one. I just hope I can keep the routine up when Jacek returns to work at the weekend. We're loving life as a foursome and we know it'll just get even better once Tyler Lee gets used to Beau more and is back to his happy chappy self. Any tips on how to reassure a toddler and help them to be more accepting towards a new sibling would be greatly appreciated.

  8. Congratulations he is adorable! Well done for getting out and about I remember how hard it was fitting everything in. With regard to your toddler just give him time, my eldest was 7 when the twins were born and he had his monents, it just takes time to adjust x

I don't know if it would help but we bought our eldest a present from the baby and pretended he'd chosen it for him. It kinda worked and they warmed to each other then.
    It'll come with time.xx

    1. Thank you so much. It's great to be out and about, I was cooped up so much during pregnancy. We got Tyler Lee a dishwasher and washing machine toy from Beau, he seems to have warmed to him now x

  14. The only advice I would give is to ensure you put the little one down between feeds when in the house and spend a little time playing with your older one. Although you will be thinking its time to sort washing, tidy etc. But he will realise that he still gets lots of attention despite having a baby around. Sounds like you are doing amazing though getting out everyday! That is some achievement! x

  15. What beautiful pics. He's gorgeous. It's very difficult isn't it at first for them to accept a sibling. My daughter still struggles at times now. It took about 6 weeks for her to really take to her sister. I made a little reward chart for her to get her to help me with tasks with the baby such as changing a nappy, helping with bath time etc x

  16. I think it can take children a while to adjust to a new baby in the house. The best advice I can give you is give it time. Babies are pretty boring but as they grow bigger and start to interact things get better.
