Now that Tyler Lee is older we get to do lots of activities together, things I wouldn't even have dreamt of doing when he was a baby, because I would have been in a fluster trying to get out of the house and keep him entertained whilst out and about - lets face it, I'm still flustered, especially when he runs in circles around the car and I have to chase after him just to get him in!
I have a rule that we have to go out once a day, even if it's just to my parents garden, we both need the fresh air and I never thought I'd say it but I need to get out of the house, I hate being stuck in these days. We have a great routine going on now that Tyler Lee has begun playschool, he goes there three times a week - one afternoon and two mornings, so this really helps break up the day for him and gives me the chance to catch up on work. These are my favourite things to do with my bestest bud, ever.
Go to the beach
My little Aquarius boy likes nothing better than going to the seaside and we frequent the beaches of East Cork a lot. He likes to run down to the shoreline and splash in the water if he can - most times I have to hold him back but my boy doesn't mind getting completely soaked at all. Now that the warmer weather is here I'll be packing a picnic along with his bucket and spade and taking him to the beach on the days when he doesn't have playschool.
Visiting castles and tourist attractions
Ever since Tyler Lee was born he's been taken to so many museums, castles, etc. and this is something that I continue to do with him and most definitely always will. Our most recent castle visit was back in February when Jacek and I took him to Blarney Castle for his 2nd birthday and we actually took him to the top for the first time. I hope our boy loves learning and history just as much as we do.
Go for a walk in our local gardens
Fota House and Gardens is one of our favourite places to go for a walk (or a run in Tyler Lee's case!). The gardens are absolutely beautiful, I've featured our mama and son days out there on the blog before and I love that it's free to walk around there. We usually go in the mornings and are often the only ones around so we're free to stroll around as much as we like.
Soft play morning
It's no secret that I hate soft play with all my being, anytime we've gone there there's been nothing but hassle with other children and the place has been full to the brim but one rainy day I was forced to go there when my toddler was demanding see-saw (the playground). We now go on Tuesday mornings and it's so quiet, we almost always have the place to ourselves and I can let Tyler Lee run around as much as he likes, he even goes into the big kids area, it's like he's training for Ninja Warrior! I love watching him run around and play to his hearts content. We then go for lunch afterwards and after that he's worn out ready to sleep for the afternoon. It's just a small thing but it's our thing and I love it now.
Have mini adventures
Sometimes we just have to get out of the house but don't have anywhere in particular to go, so I just get in the car with my boy and drive. We almost always end up by the sea or at the woods, discovering new places we had never seen before. My boy loves exploring and I love when he walks along with me.
Playground time
This
is another one of our 'things'. We go to the playground multiple times a
week and then call into Jacek at work after. I love the playground we
go to, it's in such a scenic spot and it's big enough for the kids to
run around freely. I even love having a go on the spinner with my boy -
nothing like getting dizzy with your toddler!
Have a photo session
It's also no secret that I love my camera and my favourite subject to capture is my son. I love taking him to meadows and beauty spots around our county to get some stunning pictures of him. I can't wait to get him into the vintage pieces I've gotten for him for the summer months and plan some fun shoots. I'm so glad he loves being in front of the camera now!
Cuddling in bed watching YouTube videos
Having a toddler means lots of cuddles and I love that my boy now lies in bed with me, cuddled up into me watching silly videos, music or kids TV shows on YouTube. He really loves watching cat vines, Ed Sheeran and Sia videos (purely for the dancing) and a show called Me Too! This is such a simple thing to do with him but it's one of my favourite things, ever.
Baking sweet treats
I try to involve Tyler Lee in as many of the activities I enjoy myself as possible - he can't blog of course, yet! We've recently begun baking together and it's so much fun. He's the best taste tester and kitchen helper I could ever have asked for. I hope he likes baking and cooking as much as his mummy and daddy do.
Reading to him
Tyler Lee has hundreds of books, how lucky he is to have a little library all of his own and if I'm honest I love reading the books as much as he does listening to the stories. It's so lovely to relive my childhood favourites with my own child, we just need to stop buying books!
What's your favourite thing to do with your toddler?
We are big on the beach, too. We only have 3 short months of summer here in BOston, so we take full advantage.

ReplyDeleteYou are an amazing mom! I'm seriously impressed with how much you just enjoy being with your child, it almost makes me feel bad for wanting so much alone time. I love my kids but it seems more often lately they fight and it's just tiring (brother and sister). Enjoy him and keep up the awesome work! Your amazing!
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are always breathtaking. He is such a cutie! I can see why those suggestions are your favorites.
ReplyDeleteSo many great things to do! I wish we could go to the beach more and explore. It's a bit far from our house but I would love it! - jeanine

ReplyDeleteThats lovely. :)
ReplyDeleteWe love going for walks in a local forest lately. Matthew has actually never been to the beach but planning to do it this bank holiday weekend
We love going to the playground lately or playing with the sprinkler. She also enjoys story time and cuddling. Going to soak it all up before she decides she's too big for that!
ReplyDeleteI love taking my kids on walks...although where I live, the walks are quite boring! We go to Sardegna Italy every summer so we definitely get enough quality time on the beach!
ReplyDeleteWe always found it so relaxing to go to the beach when the kids were younger. They would play for hours in the sand. I like going on nature walks.
ReplyDeleteYou are definitely bringing up a well-rounded lil' boy. You guys sound like you have tons of fun adventures. I enjoyed art projects with my nephew when he was a toddler.
ReplyDeleteAhwww, your kid is soooo cute...You know what? If a kid is as cute as him, even watching TV together will make a very special moment. He is soooo adorable. I guess this is a calling for me to have a son already.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous place to live! Your boy is so adorable by the way!
ReplyDeleteYou and your toddler are so cute. I am glad he stays still for the camera because mine run all the time lol
