Wonderland in the Woodland
Once upon a time there was a boy named Tyler Lee,
He liked to run through the woods and sit in mossy trees,
He found magic and wonder in everything he saw,
Skipping along, singing his favourite song - see-saw, Marjory Daw...
He always ran ahead and rarely looked back,
Stamina and a thirst for adventure were qualities he most certainly did not lack,
Weaving in and out from tall, towering trees,
The roots catching his feet, tripping him up and scraping his knees...
What would a childhood be without scrapes, scratches and dirt?
Never shedding a tear, his adventurers skin immune from hurt,
What will we find down the woods today? A den? A fairy fort? A swing made from rope?
Never mind the mud and dirt, memories like these that last forever can't be washed off with soap.
Wonderlands in woodlands, childhoods were made for this,
Enchantment in ever corner, sun shining, days like these are nothing but pure bliss.
I love our walks in the woods, it's fast becoming one of our favourite places to go for a stroll and some fresh air and it really tires Tyler Lee out, he always needs a snooze after a trip to the woods! The wood by my parents house really is quite a wonderland, there's so many little gems to see along the way - knitting on trees (what is this called, I know there's a proper name for it?), little dens, an old iron bedhead molded into a tree and a gorgeous view of the other islands. There really is something magical about this place and I love that my boy is seeing the wonder in it all, just as I did as a child too.
On the way back up to my parents house we stopped at a field which neighboured the wood, the grass was dotted with daisies and it was beautiful. I just had to capture some pictures as the brightness of the green grass against the blue sky with the white and pink tinged flowers was truly stunning. It was so lovely to have breather before walking back home and Tyler Lee became acquainted with the daisies, maybe soon we'll make some daisy rings, although I'm so out of practice, I haven't made any since I was a little girl!
One of the things I truly adore about being a mother is getting to relive childhood everyday with my own child and teach him and show him all the things I used to love when I was a little girl. Days like this with him really are so perfect, lets hope the sun keeps shining throughout the rest of spring and summer so that we can have more wonderland adventures in the woodland.
Such beautiful photos Fiona! I love days like that, the sunshine always makes me feel happy :) xx
ReplyDeleteWow. What a gorgeous place to go for a walk. It's beautiful. He is gorgeous and his little outfit is just adorable!
ReplyDeleteWhat an absolute cutie with a contagious smile! Thank you for this post brightening my day!
ReplyDeleteThat is a gorgeous daisy-filled field! It looks like you both thoroughly enjoyed the outing. My boys LOVE getting outside too. On days when it seems like everything is going haywire, just getting outside -- even if only on the deck -- seems to be the cure all. Nothing like some fresh air (and ideally some sunshine) to calm you down and tire little ones out. :)
ReplyDeleteOMG. He is beautiful! What a little doll. His curls and his outfit!
ReplyDeleteThat really is a magical wonderland woodland! Such a gorgeous place to explore with such a handsome little man! I grew up in a development that was almost all woods, with magical little alcoves of trees, ponds and neat discoveries. Sadly, like much of my area, it has since been overdeveloped, so my son won't get to see it. But there is a state park nearby my old home that I took him too, so I could relive some of my childhood memories with him.
ReplyDeleteYou took so many amazing photos while you were out and about and I LOVE your poem. It is so fitting for a little boy (and I have 2, so I know)!!

ReplyDeleteFirst, I'm sending your blog to my SIL because she dresses her kids in all vintage clothes and is going to love your little boy's rompers. How fun that you are getting to raise him where you grew up. We spent a year near my childhood home and I did love sharing those places and experiences with my kids and also with my husband so they all could appreciate what made me who I am today.

ReplyDeleteSeeing your pics makes me reaffirm my desire to visit the Emerald Isle before I die. It's #1 on my wife's list and number #2 on mine, so it will probably be our first overseas trip. (Not counting the couple of hours I spent in the airport in Shannon in a layover on the way to Iraq).
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable little boy you have. I adore his little outfit
