Making The Ordinary Extraordinary ♥

Yesterday I filled out a questionnaire to be featured on The Sunkissed Diary and one of the questions was - "Describe your perfect day?" and I answered with "a lie-in, the sun shining and a picnic on the beach with my boys" and guess what, today all that actually happened! Jacek had the day off work today and when he has the day off he almost always lets me have a lie-in whilst he tends to Tyler Lee and all his needs. When I eventually got up and looked out the window the sun was shining brightly, it felt like summer had already arrived. I decided that we weren't going to waste this day, that we had to get out as a family and get some fresh air whilst soaking up the sun, so we headed to the beach for a second time in a week and believe me when I say that this never happens, even though we live on an island...
Of course, no beach trip and sunny day would be complete without an ice cream or two so we had to stop off in the shop first, note to Jacek - never buy a toddler a Calipso, especially if they're wearing white! First we went to Inch and I regretted only wearing a sun dress, a pair of pumps and a cardigan, I was freezing! Damn me and my optimism in believing that the day was a lot hotter than it actually was. Luckily men never get cold (such a funny myth believed by girlfriends everywhere!) so Jacek generously offered me his hoody, I have never been so grateful for a piece of clothing in all my love. We ran along the beach, built sandcastles and watched the waves coming into the shore. These are such ordinary things to do but when we don't get to do them that often, in fact, we've never built sandcastles together before, it makes them extraordinary and memories that stick in our minds forever.

We then moved on to Roches Point, this is fast becoming my favourite place in Cork, where I had a sit down for myself on the sand whilst the boys ran around on the rocks and went down to the shoreline. I love watching them together, it melts my heart, it's like little and large going along together and seeing them like this is so precious to me because Jacek works a lot and these moments are quite rare. Tyler Lee idolizes his Daddy and is always ecstatic when he gets to spend a whole day with him.

Being silly sausages!
The look of horror on Tyler Lee's face is priceless!
The sea air really wiped out our boy, he fell asleep in the car on the way home and after being transferred to his cot, spent the afternoon napping, nothing makes my child sleep peacefully like a dose of fresh sea air! This gave Jacek and I the opportunity to enjoy a drink in the garden together and chat amongst ourselves, something we haven't done since last summer. It was so lovely and the perfect way to end our day.

Saturdays are so ordinary to me, in fact, they are my most hated day of the week as they are usually so boring. Today was simple but so special to me. Everything felt absolutely perfect (apart from that cold wind on the beach!) and any day I get to spend in scenic places having fun with the two people I love most in the world really does make me so thankful and appreciative of the life that I have.

Today was just what I needed. All these little things throughout the day really left a lasting impression with me. Sometimes making the ordinary extraordinary is just what's needed to make you think differently about everything. The simplest of things always leave the biggest impact on your heart.
