Scoozis, 2-5 Winthrop Lane | Guide of Cork ♥

This is the first post as part of my Guide of Cork where I'll be sharing some of my favourite gems and places hidden throughout my home county of Cork. Cork is an amazing little city and the county is absolutely beautiful with so many stunning locations by the coast and further inland. Cork is most definitely a place with a lot to offer no matter what your interests are. The first post of my Guide of Cork is to share with you all one of my favourite places to eat in the city - Scoozi! or Scoozis as us Corkonians say!

Scoozis Restaurant is a quirky restaurant with a homely, welcoming and charming interior which welcomes patrons of all ages, I love finding family friendly places in the city! The restaurant itself has separate little rooms and spaces which give a real intimate feel to wherever you may be seated. The interior is adorned with stone clad walls, antiques and bric-a-brac which give a real cosy vibe and there is always something interesting to look at. Jacek and I went here yesterday for a celebratory New Years Eve meal and the places was up the walls busy, which just serves to show how popular Scoozis is with the people of Cork, being completely honest though I've been to Scoozis on many occasions and it's always busy. The staff are so friendly, welcoming and helpful and as we stepped through the door we were greeted by a man who I can only presume was the manager who passed us menus and quickly informed us that the waiting time was 15 to 20 minutes to be seated, we were more than happy to wait.

We were seated in what I would call the 'airier' side of the restaurant which has white walls and window dividers for the seating areas, it's such a lovely place. I couldn't take anymore pictures of the decor as the place was so busy and I didn't want to be in the servers way but hopefully you can get a glimpse of the atmosphere Scoozis has to offer from the above picture.

Scoozis offer a great menu with choices of hand-built burgers, pizzas, chicken, fish and steak dishes as well as a great selection of mout-watering cakes, breads, savoury options and desserts all made in house in Scoozis bakery. The desserts actually great you as you enter the restaurant and really do make you look forward to your meal, they look amazing! As it was a celebration Jacek and I ordered a bottle of white wine, Pulpit Rock Sauvignon Blanc from South Africa of course - where else! It was such a lovely wine and we may have polished off the whole bottle...

We started with the garlic bread and cheese (€4.40) which is topped with melted Mozzarella. It was delicious as the bread was so soft, a great way to start our meal for sure. Jacek went for the New Yorker (€12.50) a hand-built burger which includes a breast of chicken grilled topped with crispy smokey
bacon and garlic cream cheese, salsa and curried mayo - sounds amazing doesn't it?! I went for the simpler pasta option and chose the carbonara (€11.80) which was seriously delicious, the sauce was so creamy. I like the fact that I was given a choice of pasta to choose from too, I went for the spiral penne.

Now to the highlight of a meal at Scoozis (well for me anyway!) - the desserts! Jacek and I decided to get a slice of the chocolate cake and the Mars Bar cheesecake (€5.95 a slice) and share them both, good choice! The Mars Bar cheesecake was my favourite with it's light, yummy topping and the biscuit base which I'm sure had a layer of Mars Bar above it which oozed caramel as it broke. Jacek preferred the chocolate cake which has a crispy, nutty praline layer throughout. Both were so delicious, I'd go to Scoozis for the desserts alone!

I can't wait to return to Scoozis in the future. I always have a great experience when I visit and leave full to the brim! I highly recommend a visit if you're in Cork City, you won't be disappointed.

And you made a great choice with the sauvignon blanc- South Africa makes some of the best sauvignon blancs! The New Yorker looks like something I would have ordered for dinner for sure!

  7. OMGoodness...I love the word 'Corkonians.' (smile) I really like a restaurant where a manager or owner is welcoming and attentive to people who come in. It's nice when they greet you, and would like to make your visit memorable. It's little things like that which make me return to a restaurant. That cheesy bread looks soooo good. I bet it tastes scrumptious. Garlic cream cheese on a sandwhich...yum! Topping off the meal with a slice of Mars Bar Cheesecake sounds delicious. I've had Snickers cheesecake before, but I would want a slice with that biscuity-layer.

  8. OMG! I'm so hungry right now, this is killing me and possible a bad idea to look at before dinner, lol.. However, the Mars Bar cheesecake looks awesome, I used to always eat mars bars growing up like all the time. All of this looks amazing and now, I'm double as hungry and want cheesecake :(
