12 Days Of Christmas Blogging Challenge Day #4 - Salt Dough Decorations ♥

It's day #4 of the 12 Days Of Christmas Blogging Challenge and today's topic is DIY projects. I have to admit I'm not too good at crafting things, especially when I'm short of time like I was yesterday but my boy and I had so much fun making these salt dough decorations for our tree. They look far from perfect but they were made with love by both of us and I love the fact that they have his hand and foot prints in them - even if his feet were a little too big to fit both in the circle shape!

It's really simple to make the salt dough. All you need is 1 cup of flour, 1/2 cup of salt and 1/2 cup of water. You mix all the ingredients together to form the dough, then lay the dough on a flour coated piece of parchment paper, roll out the dough with a rolling pin and cut out whatever shapes you'd like, make sure to leave a hole at the top for ribbon or string to hang your decoration. We just used simple circles and then pressed my boys hand and feet into the dough. You then bake the dough for 2 hours. After it has cooled you can then paint it. I used soft blue acryllic paint for the background and then red and green finger paints to give a festive look. I used my fingers to create the red and green dots on the decorations and then I let them dry by the fire.

Finally, I hung them by a blue and white ribbon to the tree and they really stand out on there. It's nice to have something personal to Tyler Lee hanging on our tree, it makes it all the more special.

Have you made any fun DIY projects this festive season?
