By The Seaside - Roches Point ♥

My boys and I love to be by the seaside, what better way to spend a summers day then sitting on the soft, golden sand, listening to the sounds of the waves gently lapping over the shore and being relaxed by the fresh, salty air. We recently took a trip to Roches Point, a quaint little scenic spot at the very tip of Cork Harbour which overlooks various places in the harbour including the back of Spike Island and the town of Cobh. Standing on the beach at Roches Point you can see all the houses and building dotted around the harbour, all the different islands and peninsulas as well as all the lovely sailing boats. On the day we visited there were lots of sailboats racing and it was quite relaxing watching them drift along in the water, it made me wish once more that we had a boat. It's a real shame to live in Cork Harbour all your life and not be able to say that you've been around it on a boat, it's definitely something on my lifetime bucket list for sure! Roches Point itself is so charming to look at with it's multi-coloured houses and the lighthouse, it reminds me of the children's television programme Balamory with it's colourful facade! I used to come here as a child and hadn't been down there since so it was great to visit with my own son and let him experience the delights of the beach.

The area where we live isn't known for it's sandy beaches, in fact it's dotted with 'strands' where all your met with is rocks, stones and pebbles, not ideal if you want to take your shoes off for a walk along the seafront! Roches Point does have a lot of rocks but the sand is soft and golden and was perfect for Tyler Lee to run around on, I was only sad that we hadn't brought his bucket and spade as this was a rather impromptu visit to the beach for us, I didn't even have a change of clothes for him, such a very unorganised mammy I know! He spent his time running along the beach, navigating his way through the rocks to find the rock pools and splashing around in the salt water. He loves the water so much and the feel of the sand. He likes to pick it up and throw it around as if it were fairy dust he was sprinkling, my boy is a beach bum and I love that. Tyler Lee tried to make friends with the other children on the beach but they didn't respond to his greetings of "hey" and "hello", that absolutely broke my heart, he's such a friendly little thing, some children he approaches when he's out and about don't seem to know how to respond. He did however take a liking to a little girl around the same age as himself and tried to give her a hug and an "awwww", she seemed to like him too. Looking at the two of them together was like one of those retro seaside postcards you see with the little ones kissing or hugging, it was so sweet. His outfit quite fitted the retro theme too as he was wearing his gorgeous light blue gingham vintage shortalls from the 1950's which I picked up on Etsy, I had been waiting all summer to put him in them! He then found two dogs to run after and that just made his day complete.

It's days like these when I sit back and let my boy explore, wander and experience the world for himself that make me realise how lucky I am to have him in my life. I've never known a more beautiful, friendly, caring and genuinely lovely person in my life, his spirit is a good one and he makes me so proud just by being himself. Days like this are what the most perfect summers are made of, time with family, activities that don't have to cost a fortune, being by the seaside and hearing my child giggling to his hearts content with happiness at life and it's simple pleasures.
