Is there anything nicer than a new book? I love picking them up, especially when they look great (I use them as 'coffee table' books) and come from one of my fellow bloggers too, so you can imagine how delighted I was to receive a copy of Get Crafty by Ali Coghlan, a gorgeous looking book filled with lovely, colourful photography and a whole host of crafts which are perfect for children. Ali is a fellow Irish blogger who blogs at Hey Ali.
Now I have to admit, I'm not the craftiest of mothers, letting my son do the majority of his art and craft time in preschool. However, at Christmas I decided that I should step up my game, buying him some art and craft supplies for him to use and home (which he did, as you can see from the paint splattered background) but I've been wanting to do some proper crafts with him and Get Crafty is full of inspiration.
Get Crafty has over 40 craft ideas and each one is laid out in a simple step by step guide, accompanied by some beautiful, colourful pictures. Each craft also tells you what's needed before you begin and most items are either things you can reuse from around the home, collect from nature or that you can find relatively cheaply in pound shops.
One of my favourite crafts from the book and one which I really want us to do are the driftwood sailboats. Living on an island I've always loved anything nautical and Tyler Lee loves boats too. On our next visit to the seaside I'm going to be on the lookout for driftwood and we have a plethora of unwanted pillowcases in the airing cupboard so these will be completely cost free too - even better!
Congratulations to Ali on such a wonderful book, it truly is inspiring, especially to the mummies like myself who want to be crafty with their little ones but don't really know where to begin.
Get Crafty by Ali Coghlan is published by Mercier Press and is available in all good book stores nationwide for €14.99.

I like the sound of this book. I love looking for ideas for arts and crafts
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a lovely book. I'm not really good at crafts either although I do enjoy doing them with my daughter. I get a little bit frustrated though when the end product looks nothing like the one on the book ;)
ReplyDeleteSuch a good idea! I am doing something similar but instead of the seaside I'd like to use something from my back garden or local country park. A very cute project!

ReplyDeleteThis looks so good! I'm rubbish with thinking of crafty things and at 20 months Toby's starting to enjoy these things more so I need a book like the is to guide me xx
ReplyDeleteoo what a great book to inspire getting creative with the kiddies! sometimes I can't be bothered to think of things so this would be perfect!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of cheap but beautiful crafts like Ali has done. The driftwood is an awesome idea. Where is it that you live?
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like such a lovely book, I am hopeless at anything associated with the word 'craft' x
ReplyDeleteI used to love crafts myself, but like you most of N's are done at nursery, although he's never usually that keen. He does just get out whatever he fancies whenever but mostly it's just colouring.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great book and source of inspiration! We'll be tracking this down :)
ReplyDeleteoh this could be good as I often run out of ideas
ReplyDeleteHow cool is this?! I always look at Pinterest for craft ideas but I may have to pick this up to try :)
