I hope the people who spout moronic statements such as - "they should f*** off back to their own country" or "we don't want them over here", realise how selfish and stupid they sound when they expel this nastiness. They should see the look on the grown mans face in the picture above and feel ashamed of themselves, that man is clearly in despair and some ignorant, selfish, stupid, hate-spewing people in society, would like men like him, gripping onto his children, tears in his eyes, stopped at the border and pushed back to sea to fend for himself and his family in an unstable country, where they will most probably end up dead, if of course the journey across the sea doesn't claim their lives first. Does anyone have a heart in this day and age? I know none of the people personally in the pictures featured in this post but I would help them in any way I could. These people are refugees, desperate to get away from dangerous, harrowing and cruel situations which they sadly see themselves in, through no fault of their own I may add, due to the political instability of their home countries. Do you think if everything was perfect that they'd want to leave, of course not and you'd be an absolute liar if you said you wouldn't try to get yourself and your family, your young innocent children like Galip and Aylan, away from danger in the hopes of a new, safe life. These poor people have done nothing wrong - so why are they being treated like the scum of the Earth, criminals and like something people have trodden on? The human race baffles me completely.
So I ask, what would you do, if it was you who was in the Middle-East or some other war-torn country, where you and your family were in danger of being killed for your beliefs or for no other reason at all apart from the sport of some evil persons baying for blood? Would you not do absolutely anything to save yourself and your children? As I read this week and wholeheartedly agree with - no one puts their child into the sea when the land is safer - do you think these people have a choice? If you do you're a moron and a selfish human being. I could be a lot more blunt but this is a family friendly blog...
The world sadly is an unfair, harsh and terrifying place at times. Humanity needs to pull together during this crisis and respect their fellow human beings by helping them in any way they can. As I said above, the Earth belongs to everyone, your country is not your country, everyone should have the right to a safe place to live, a danger-free life, a happy life at that. After all, if the shoe was on the other foot and you were trying to escape terror, wouldn't you hope that someone out there would help and support you and your loved ones? How many shocking, tragic and disturbing pictures need to be shown before something is done? How many innocent children, women and men need to die before someone comes up with a solution and helps these people?
What would you do, if it was you?
I'm so glad I read your post tonight, I've been a weepy mess all day, not able to concentrate on the mundane daily 'stuff' that stresses us out so often. I signed the parliament petition to put pressure of the government to show compassion, but I still felt helpless, so I wrote to my MP. It's a tiny ripple in the pond but if every causes little ripples, the pressure might be the tipping point. I wrote about my letter to my MP on my blog, think you might be able to relate. Anyway, thanks for putting yourself out there on this, it matters. Mrs C x
ReplyDeleteThank you for reading and taking the time to comment. I feel the same, unable to concentrate on the daily tasks at hand, they seem so insignificant compared to what these poor people are going through... Well done you on at least trying to make a difference. I think you're totally right, if everyone did at least something then we'd be at least one step closer to making a difference and giving these people the lives and peace they deserve, like everyone does.
DeleteThanks for writing this post. I have also been a complete mess today and crying pretty much non-stop all day because of the pictures published yesterday and other pictures I've seen. It broke my heart. I was tearing up just reading your post.
ReplyDeleteThose families are doing what they think is best for themselves and their children. They are in a desperate situation, and people are treating them like scum. The are HUMAN and are been treated like animals.
I have signed the parliamentary petition and in the town where we live there are donating stations being set up.
A heartbreaking situation indeed.

I entirely agree. I absolutely HATE all these people whose attitude is that somehow they deserve how lucky we are in this country, and people in troubled countries deserve their fate too. No, it is a chance of birth. They didn't earn living in a stable country, they got lucky; and if they are not willing to share that luck with suffering people, they absolutely don't deserve their fortune, which makes them the 'leeches' in society in my book. Makes me so angry. & what is happening at the moment is so terribly tragic. It is not okay for us as a nation to pretend we can't see it.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been able to stop thinking about this all day. I want to do anything I can.
ReplyDeleteI`ve donated money, i`ve written to my MP, I`ve signed the petition - nothing feels like its enough. xx
I can't imagine being in a situation like this. I think, scratch that, I KNOW that I'd do whatever it took to get my kids to a better place. I completely understand the images of these parents scrambling and scratching to get their kids to a better place.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your heartfelt words. I don't know any parent who wouldn't give their lives for the safe life of their children. We, as humans, need to pressure our governments to help in the humanitarian efforts.

Thank you for writing this emotional post. I know it was hard to write as it was hard for me to read without tearing up :( I can't even imagine and I do know that Id do what it takes to get my kids to a better place. Heartbreaking, just heart breaking
ReplyDeleteI can’t imagine what these families are going thorough and the decisions that they have to make. The pictures that were on our news yesterday were heartbreaking. I hope they are able to find a solution to the conflict so not fair to all those families.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about it. I read the article on the news and saw some pictures about 2 days ago. Very heart breaking. They even showed the pic of that little boy :( Wish everyone could have a chance to live peacefully. Peace !
ReplyDeleteI would do exactly the same; risk my family's safety and ride an overcrowded boat just to escape a more cruel place. People like us, who are lucky enough to live or be born in a less troubled country should be thankful we are not in their shoes.
ReplyDeleteI can't even imagine what these parents are going through. But as a parent, I think i would do whatever I had to to keep my babies safe.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree with you. Their deaths should raise a flag like a warning signal about children's safety. Nobody owns the entire world because it is actually just for free. However, the sad reality is that every government and those in high positions claim power/greed but not take charge in being responsible for citizens.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you wrote this post! It is so often that people are quick to judge and say hateful things. The reality is you are totally right, in the same situation anyone would do absolutely anything they could to try to better the lives of their families. We need to come together instead of alienating and blaming others at times when they need compassion more than anything else!
ReplyDeleteToo often people are quick to judge or believe any sensational story they read without knowing the background, the history... the plight of those involved. It is great for you to bring this story to light from a different perspective.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness this made me emotional. All the stories that circulate to try to make out like these people are 'letting ISIS in' and blah blah blah, when it's just plain heartbreaking. There isn't a picture of a Syrian refugee that doesn't look like the epitome of anguish. Thank you for sharing this,
