Valentine's Cupcakes | A Sweet Surprise For My Fiance ♥

I don't know why, but this year I'm very inspired by Valentine's Day - perhaps I'm getting more romantic in my old age! I have already decorated the mantlepiece with a Valentines theme, picked up some Valentines treats for my boys and last week I felt the need to surprise my fiance with a Valentines themed sweet surprise.

When our son went for a nap I began baking my little heart out, making a batch of red velvet cupcakes made with love. I popped a little square of milk chocolate in each cupcake as an added surprise and it really gave a lovely touch to the cupcakes as it had slightly melted throughout the red velvet mix and sunk to the bottom of the cupcakes leaving a lovely little bite at the end.

The decoration was the fun bit. I wanted to go all out, making them as pretty as I could, with a theme of love on each one. I made half with creamy vanilla icing and the others with swirled chocolate fudge and vanilla icing, I have to admit that I really did love how they turned out, especially the swirled ones.

I wanted to make each cupcake as pretty as I possibly could so I used red and pink edible glitter which I picked up for just €1.49 each from my local Dealz store. I used the red glitter on the swirled icing and the pink on the vanilla as the red and pink stood out on the different shades nicely.

I then used silver pearl balls to make love hearts and "I ♥ U" on the individual cupcakes. I also just dotted some of the silver pearl balls on the top of some of the other cupcakes and this decoration actually turned out to be my fiance's favourite.

When I bake cupcakes Jacek likes when I pop some in my teacup molds so of course I to make two for him from this batch. The cupcakes looked so pretty in their little pink teacups and saucers.

I wanted to create a romantic display with the cupcakes so that Jacek would be truly surprised when he saw them on the kitchen table so I scattered rose petals everywhere and dotted some of the roses he had bought me earlier in the month on the table. They were wilting quite a bit at this stage but it didn't matter, they still made a lovely display and gave him the 'wow' factor when he walked in and saw them arranged on the table.

I also wrote him a little heartfelt card from our son and I, just to show him how much we love him and appreciate all he does for us. I popped a little surprise in the card too and I was delighted that he was happy with it.

I had been wanting to surprise my fiance like this for quite awhile now but had simply never gotten around to it. Something had always come up and taken over my time but I'm so glad I finally made the time to do this for him and show him just how much I love and care for him.

The cupcakes tasted absolutely delicious, if I do say so myself! I was so happy with how the batch turned out and will be making some more red velvet cupcakes for Valentines Day itself, I must invest in more glitter!

This display gave me an excuse to use my beautiful new, vintage-style plates which I also picked from Dealz for just €1.49 each. I love them!

I was so happy with how these pictures turned out. I have been working on my photography skills ever since Jacek bought me my new DSLR camera for Christmas and I thought these were the nicest pictures I had taken in ages, hence why there are so many of them in this post - sorry (not sorry...) for that!

Icing, glitter, silver and pink - what more could you want from a cupcake?

I have some more ideas for putting together another display and sweet surprise for Jacek like this again for Valentine's Day, which I'll surely share on the blog when the time comes. I could I resist taking more pictures of my creations?!

He really was so surprised that I had put this together for him and he really appreciated my effort. You have no idea how hard it was to keep our son away from the cupcakes until Jacek came home from work, little toddlers don't understand the word 'no' when it comes to cupcakes! Believe me!

I'm so glad I did this for my other half. It just goes to show that it doesn't have to be expensive to show people that you love and care for them. A few cupcakes, some wilting roses and some sweet decoration is all it took to show Jacek just how much he means to me on that day.

All I did for Jacek's little sweet surprise was put together with love, which is why I think he loved it so much, he could see the effort I went to and just how 'perfect' I wanted everything to be for him. I find that things made with such love are far more precious to the receiver rather than something shop bought. I think the effort is what makes the recipient of your gifts feel especially special and thought of, don't you think?

I hope my little sweet surprise for my other half has inspired you to do something special for your other half too. I can guarantee you that whatever you do they will appreciate it and seeing the smile on your partners face when they realise just how much effort you've gone to just for them is absolutely priceless.

I really am going soft in my old age aren't I? It's so good to know that romance isn't dead though, even after three years together. He's my best friend and it's always so important for me to show him just how much I love him. I don't have the money for fancy gifts or extravagant meals out but something so simple as some pretty little cupcakes really made his day.

Do you like the look of my Valentine's cupcakes? Have you ever put together a surprise like this for your other half?

  3. Wow, those cupcakes definitely look amazing! Since you mentioned your new camera, did you take any pictures with your old camera to compare? Also, I am looking at getting a new DSLR- can I ask what you like or don't like about your new camera?! Back to the topic of the post though, I just made my husband cupcakes last week. Beyond that, I try to surprise him with prepped meals when I am away- today I'll be gone for the day, so have gotten his meals all set up as a surprise in the fridge for when he gets home!

  5. Wow, these are BY FAR the most elegant looking homemade cupcakes I've ever seen, great job! I bet they tasted delicious, too, especially with the little chocolates inside. I also love the fact that you're taking the "season" of Valentine's Day, and not just the day itself, to show your boys just how much you love them. Happy early Valentine's Day <3
