Starting From Scratch | Newborn Baby Essentials ♥

Now that Tyler Lee is almost two I have begun thinking that perhaps it's time to start trying for another baby. I don't want a large gap between him and his future sibling and ideally I would love to have another baby before or around the time he is three. I think this is the perfect age gap, we'll have had three years of me just being his mother, our 'us' time but he'll also be looking forward to the thought of little sibling to grow up with. However, if we do decide to try for another baby and fall pregnant this year we will be starting from scratch with buying all the newborn baby essentials.

Last Christmas money was very tight in our house and I decided to sell the majority of Tyler Lee's baby items such as his swing, baby bath, bedding and travel system... I think all I have left is the bear play mat he received as a christening gift. While it's quite daunting to think of the expense we'll have again with purchasing new baby items it's also quite exciting to think of preparing all these things again for a new little baby. I think second time around I'll be far more prepared and know what I actually need to get instead of wasting money on things we'll never use. This time round it won't be as easy to go and pick up everything we need for a newborn with a little toddler in tow who absolutely hates shopping so I'd rather pick up the majority of what we need online from baby products retailers such as Online4Baby, who actually offer better deals and prices than local baby products retailers in my city.

We will need a new buggy to accommodate for the new baby but also give comfort to Tyler Lee when we're out and about. I love the look of the Cosatto Shuffle Tandem Stroller in All Star design. It has plenty of room for baby in the back and my toddler to sit comfortably in the front. I love the fact that this stroller has umbrella fold design too - anything else is like rocket science to me and it's the perfect size for fitting in my cars boot too.

This time around I really want a white cot, I just prefer the clean look of white wood and think it's even sweeter when it comes to nursery furniture. The 4Baby Eva Classic Cot is such a beautiful looking cot, I just love the shape of it's fantastic that it comes with a mattress and mattress protector with the cot all for under £100 - as I said there are much better bargains to be had online.

The Clair De Lune Broderie Anglaise Moses Basket in white is absolutely beautiful. It has that classic, almost vintage style feel I love when it comes to baby items and this is the actually Moses basket we had for Tyler Lee. However, the Moses basket was my aunts and I think this time around it would be nice for us to purchase our own. I'd like our next baby to spend a lot longer in their Moses basket than Tyler Lee did. The rocker stand on this Moses basket is perfect for getting baby softly off to sleep too.

It's safe to say that I have a thing for changing bags. They are not just a functional item these days but a style staple too and I think the 4Baby Designer Changing Bag in Rosie Posie design is so pretty! It includes everything a newborn needs from a changing mat to insulated bottle holders and plenty of space for everything else too.

We didn't get Tyler Lee his swing until he was a few months old so this time around we will be prepared and have a swing for the newborn as soon as they arrive. I really like the sound of the Graco Sweetpeace Swing - Dream as it comes with it's one sounds and six motion settings but also an MP3 connection so you can play your own songs for your baby - perfect for me as I like to play baby Mozart and Enya to my little one.

Finally, a group 0+ is an important essential for us as we only travel by car and I want our newborn to be safe and comfortable whilst in the car. The Cosatto Hold Giggle Group 0+ Car Seat in Hipstar design is perfect and I like that it has the same star design as the tandem stroller I like. It sounds and looks like such a sturdy and safe car seat and that's so important to me when choosing the perfect model.

I really can't help but look through baby items, choosing your baby's items is one of the most fun things you get to do when you find out you're expecting. There are so many beautifully designed products for baby's these days that it's hard not to swoon over them all.

Are you expecting a little one soon? Do you like any of the products I've chosen above?

  1. My older sister and I are 3 years apart (technically 3 1/2, for a few months a year until my birthday hits we have a 4 year difference) and my mom always said it was the perfect age difference! That Clair De Lune Moses Basket is so cute <3

  2. I always wanted a 3-4 year age gap but Ethan's coming up to 5 and I don't even know when we'll be able to have a baby... But I've heard good things about bigger age gaps too.

We've got Ethan's cot, buggy etc, but I'd love to start again, now that I know more, and now that my tastes are different. Odds are that we'll use the same stuff but I'll alter it as much as I can (I crochet, now, so everything will be covered in cute baby blankets haha)

Those are some lovely choices, though. I love the star pattern on the buggy

    1. I always wanted a two to three year gap but that's slipping away more and more now - unless I get pregnant before next February. I think as Ethan will be older he'd understand more and be able to help you out with the baby, I think that's a lovely way to have it too. Oh I love the traditional crocheted and knitted baby blankets - so adorable :)

  4. Great list of things that parents need for a newborn with explanations of when and how they are used. It is challenging getting all the requirements for a new baby. Our daughter has an 8 month old and they are wondering what the best spacing for having another.

  9. I've heard and read a lot about the snuz pod. It lasts longer and you don't need to move them as soon into a cot as when you would use the Moses basket.
I got a second hand buggy this time. It's the Phil & Ted explorer which comes with a Cocoon insert for the new born. I have kept all the bits from Matthew so didn't need to buy buggy, Moses basket or car seat.

My brother has 2 kids, one on the way. Will be 2 years apart for each. I couldn't do it so I give him props for it!!! =)

  15. I remember having a bassinet similar to Clair De Lune Moses Basket. It was being able to use the crib anymore because that is what my infant wanted to stay in.

It's a shame that they don't ship to the US because I would get one in a second! They have the most adorable designs. Love all of your other newborn items too, makes me want to have another, lol!

  19. I think that preparing for a new baby is one of the most exciting things moms get to do in their lives. I can still remember doing it for my first born, and that was over 30 years ago!

  20. I am in love with the star themed double stroller! As for as double strollers go I think they can be boring as sin, but this is so vibrant, and beautiful! The items on this list are perfect when prepping for a new little one.
