Halloween Chocolate Orange Cupcakes With Red & Black Swirled Icing ♥

Halloween shall soon be upon us and it being my sons first I am quite excited for it this year. I don't normally do anything for Halloween, I used to dress up and go clubbing but I think I'm over that stage now. This year I shall be dressing my son up and taking him to visit his relatives but we couldn't go empty handed, everyone, young or old needs a treat this Halloween and I have just the perfect thing, my chocolate orange cupcakes with red and black swirled icing adorned with a multitude of Halloween themed sprinkles. These were delicious if I do say so myself! The chocolate orange flavour was divine, my icing could have been better, for me it came out looking like space but it was really sweet and was actually people's favourite part.I wanted the icing to creep over the side of the case to make it look like it was melting, luckily it worked in most cases. Feast your eyes on my scrumptious creepy cupcakes.

Ingredients
100g of plain flour
1 large egg
20g cocoa powder
1/2 Terry's Chocolate Orange
140g castor sugar
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
40g unsalted butter
100ml milk

For the icing
140g unsalted butter
280g icing sugar
1-2 tbsp milk
Vanilla essense
Black and red food colouring (or any colour you wish)

Method
1. Preheat the oven to 180 degress or gas mark 5 and line a cupcake tray with paper cupcake cases.

2. In a bowl melt the half of Terry's Chocolate Orange over a saucepan.

3. Sift the flour, baking powder, cocoa powder into a large bowl and mix it together.

4. In another bowl beat the sugar and butter together until it becomes pale and fluffy, then add in the melted chocolate and egg, whisking until smooth.

5. Combine the two mixtures, gradually add the milk and mix until smooth again.

6. Divide your mixture between the cupcake cases. Bake in the oven for 20 minutes. I tested to see if my cupcakes were done by piercing through the top of one with a knife, they knife came out clear meaning they were done.

7. For the icing beat the butter in a large bowl until soft and pale in colour, gradually add in the icing sugar and mix until smooth.

8. Add in the tablespoon of milk and beat into the mixture. Add in a few drops of vanilla essense.

9. Seperate the icing mixture into two bowls. In one bowl add the red colouring, in the other black. Mix until combine with the icing.

10. Put the red mixture into your piping bag followed by the black and decorate your cupcakes in a swirling motion. This should give the two-toned topping effect.

11. When your cupcakes are topped with icing sprinkle on some decorations of your choice. I bought my tub of sprinkles from my local Aldi store and they were delicious and should a great way to finish off my cupcakes.

12. Serve and enjoy!

I shall be preparing some other treats for Halloween next week and shall feature them on the blog soon.
